Never Let Go Trailer Sees Halle Berry Protecting her Sons Against an Evil Monster

As a cinephile with a penchant for horror and a soft spot for Hollywood legends, I must say that the upcoming film “Never Let Go” has me intrigued. Alexandre Aja, the French maestro behind some of the most chilling horror films of recent years, is back with Halle Berry in tow. The synopsis of the film promises a unique blend of folk horror and family drama, which sounds like an exciting recipe for suspense and terror.

Director Alexandre Aja, known for chilling films such as “Crawl”, returns to the horror genre with a seasoned Hollywood actress in the main role. Halle Berry headlines “Never Let Go”, Aja’s venture into the folk horror genre, backed by the production powerhouse of Shawn Levy, famous for “Deadpool” and “Wolverine”. The movie is based on a script penned by Kevin Coughlin and Ryan Grassby. Initially, these writers collaborated with Mark Romanek, but they eventually left the project.

In the movie, Berry joins forces with new actors Percy Daggs IV and Anthony B. Jenkins. Berry portrays a mother responsible for her two children in a secluded cabin. This family has long been menaced by an evil entity, but their powerful bond has successfully warded it off. However, one of the brothers starts to doubt, placing them all in grave danger as they must now battle an otherworldly menace to survive. Check out the trailer for Never Let Go here:

Never Let Go signifies Aja’s comeback to Hollywood following a hiatus of a few years. His last English production was the impressive creature movie Crawl, where a father-daughter duo found themselves in the heart of a hurricane catastrophe within a submerged Florida town, with alligators roaming freely and feasting on whatever they came across. The film, currently in line for a sequel, garnered praise from both critics and viewers, with Quentin Tarantino naming it among his favorite films of 2019.

Prior to directing the movie “Crawl”, Aja had already established a strong reputation in horror films. His work, particularly the 2003 French horror film “High Tension” (also known as “Switchblade Romance”), caused quite a stir. This film, which followed the classic premise of a maniacal killer chasing girls, left viewers puzzled due to its unexpected twist in the plot. Despite the controversy, it gave Aja the recognition needed to remake Wes Craven’s “The Hills Have Eyes”.

His introduction to Hollywood was a riveting remake of the cult classic made by Craven in 1977. Extremely graphic and violent but very well-made, the film was released during the remake craze of the 2000s. His next films weren’t as acclaimed, but Piranha 3D and Crawl were good enough to preserve his status as a horror auteur.

2021 saw him choosing to revisit his origins. The French-language sci-fi thriller “Oxygen” by Netflix stands as an impressive representative of the one-character subgenre within horror. Starring Mélanie Laurent, it tells the story of a woman who finds herself in a cryogenic chamber with dwindling oxygen supply. Critics have praised this film, contributing to its Rotten Tomatoes score of 89%. Alongside “Crawl” (with a Tomatometer rating of 84%), it’s his highest-rated movie according to the popular review aggregator. We’ll revisit this trend in a few weeks; until then, take a look at the film poster below:
