Did you know Avinash Tiwary’s Laila Majnu was once briefly shelved? Reason has Triptii Dimri connection

As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for cinematic history, I must say that the story of Laila Majnu and its journey to the silver screen is truly captivating. The fact that it was briefly shelved due to the difficulty in finding the perfect lead actress adds an element of intrigue that only enhances the allure of this cult classic.

The 2018 movie “Laila Majnu,” starring Avinash Tiwary and Triptii Dimri, has become a cult favorite with their chemistry being one of the most memorable pairings in history. However, you might not know that this production by Imtiaz Ali was temporarily halted due to difficulties in locating the perfect female lead for the film.

Astha Arora, previously employed at Mukesh Chhabra’s casting firm during the production of Laila Majnu, recently posted a video on Instagram detailing her challenges in finding the right actress for the role. “Finding a beautiful and talented girl for this role was incredibly challenging,” Arora explained, “as it’s generally perceived as a tough task within the casting industry.”

It was disclosed that the team auditioned numerous young women, ranging from popular film and television personalities, Miss India contestants, and students from various colleges throughout the country, in an effort to discover Laila. Astha mentioned that due to not finding a suitable actress for the role, the project Laila Majnu was temporarily postponed in 2016, but the search resumed a year later.

“Arora began testing people again, and on one particular day, he contacted an actress named Saloni, accompanied by her friend Triptii. At the time, it seemed like just another encounter to him. However, as he looked at Triptii, a feeling he hadn’t experienced in months emerged – he realized she was the one.”

Triptii Dimri went through an audition, and her test was forwarded to the director and producer. Remarkably, the actress from ‘Animal’ told Astha that she had previously introduced herself in a casting office in Delhi and might have been overlooked since the movie was put on hold. Astha commented, “If fate has written something for you, it will eventually find its way to you, whether it’s coming towards you or leading you to it.”

Under the direction of Sajid Ali and under the banner of Imtiaz Ali, Laila Majnu is a co-production by Ekta Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor, and Preety Ali. Despite struggling to attract audiences in its early cinema days, this film offers a modern reinterpretation of the ancient tale of Layla and Majnun.
