As someone who has been following the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for years, I must say that the upcoming film, Thunderbolts*, is generating quite a buzz and leaving us fans intrigued! The mystery surrounding Lewis Pullman‘s character, Bob, has certainly kept us guessing, with theories floating around like a swarm of superheroes in action.
There’s still a lot of speculation surrounding one of the highly anticipated Marvel movies, the team-up film Thunderbolts. Many theories have particularly been circulating about Lewis Pullman and the character he portrays. To put it mildly, neither Pullman nor his fellow cast members have disclosed much about his character, who goes by “Bob” for now. However, Pullman recently shed some light on why he decided to become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Lewis Pullman, well-known for his role as Bob in “Top Gun: Maverick,” shared the screen with Danny Ramirez, a familiar face to Marvel Cinematic Universe fans from his portrayal of Joaquin Torres. You’ll see him reprising this role in the upcoming “Captain America: Brave New World.” During an interview with Inverse, Pullman shared that it was actually Ramirez who encouraged him to venture into the superhero genre. Reminiscing about their time together in New York, Pullman recounted Ramirez’s persuasive pitch for joining this genre.
I recall tapping on his door. When he opened, I exclaimed, “Hey!” Excitement filled him right away: He exclaimed back, “Hey! You’ve got to do it! If we pull this off, we’ll be in a movie together! Maybe we’ll be fighting each other or even fighting alongside others.”
Joining a powerhouse franchise like the MCU can sound enticing on its own. However, the decision might become even more appealing if it’s reinforced by a positive recommendation from a friend or colleague. As Danny Ramirez hinted, there’s also the exciting possibility of characters like Joaquin and Bob interacting in the MCU. In fact, it looks like they could indeed appear together, as it has been confirmed that Bob and Torres will be among the numerous characters appearing in “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Secret Wars.”
Prior to the release of those final movies, there’s still the question about Lewis Pullman’s specific Marvel character he was cast in following Steven Yeun’s departure from the Thunderbolts team due to scheduling issues. The hints suggest that Pullman might portray Robert “Bob” Reynolds, who is also known as the incredibly powerful Sentry. Pullman has been rather cryptic about his role, but his hints have certainly stirred up more anticipation among fans.
In the upcoming superhero movie, it’s guaranteed that Bob won’t have to face his adventures alone. Alongside him, you’ll see Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), John Walker/U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Ava Starr/Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian (David Harbour) and Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko). This diverse band of characters will be managed by the enigmatic Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus).
I’m excited to find out how Lewis Pullman’s character will blend with the other distinct characters mentioned. At this moment, however, I’m just thrilled that an accomplished actor like Pullman is now officially part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A nod of recognition should also go to Danny Ramirez for inspiring his former roommate to take a bold step forward!
