As a fan of the streamable animated “Invincible” series, available with Prime subscription, I’m eager to witness the live-action adaptation of this popular franchise. Although news about the upcoming superhero film has been limited, creator Robert Kirkman recently provided an update that may reassure fans who are worried about its release.
Robert Kirkman, during a conversation with The Direct, recently provided an update about the upcoming movie adaptation of his comic series, Invincible. Since 2017 when it was announced that Kirkman would join forces with Seth Rogen for the project, there have been limited updates. However, the prolonged silence often indicates a phase known as “development hell,” where progress can be slow. Yet, Kirkman’s recent comments hint that things might be progressing smoothly on the movie front.
The project is currently undergoing refinement. We’re continuously collaborating with Universal on it, considering how fantastic the series has turned out. I believe the film needs to be nothing short of excellent, so we’re dedicating considerable time to ensure every aspect falls into place and functions smoothly. This means the development process will likely persist for a while longer, as we strive to produce something outstanding.
I’m not at all shocked to learn that Robert Kirkman aims to create a live-action adaptation that’s top-notch. The anticipation for Invincible Season 2 was indeed prolonged, primarily because he and the team were equally dedicated to making it live up to its predecessor and the original content. There were some grumbles from fans about dividing the season and elongating it, but overall, the reception was favorable.
I Liked Invincible Season 2’s Premiere, But There Was One Big Thing Missing

Will the “Invincible” movie maintain its momentum and attract viewers once it’s fully produced? Given that enthusiasm for Hollywood’s superhero projects appears to be decreasing, with even the once prolific list of upcoming Marvel films showing signs of slowing, it’s reasonable to ponder if by the time Universal and Robert Kirkman are prepared for production, audiences will still be eager to witness Omni-Man on screen.
It’s a question worth pondering but, as grittier superhero shows like The Boys and Peacemaker have shown, there is an appetite for more violent offerings in the genre. If there’s one thing that Invincible is good at, it’s showcasing the ultra-violence that people with superpowers can be capable of. I’d even argue that the series can be more violent than a modern franchise like Mortal Kombat, which is saying something.
Despite some doubts about the genre’s status, I’m really looking forward to discovering what Robert Kirkman and his team are working on. I’m equally excited to find out who among today’s rising stars will eventually portray Mark Grayson. It’s likely we won’t see casting decisions for quite some time yet, as the project is still in early stages of development. Kirkman humorously suggested that the process might take so long that Timothée Chalamet could end up playing Omni-Man, but let’s hope that doesn’t happen!
