As a seasoned anime enthusiast with a heart full of nostalgia and a mind buzzing with anticipation, I must say this summer anime lineup is nothing short of a treasure trove for us otakus! From the powerful spells of the Failure Frame to the charming antics of My Deer Friend Nokotan, there’s something for everyone in this list.

As a passionate film enthusiast specializing in anime, I can’t help but notice the ever-growing influence of this captivating genre. The reach of anime is expanding at an unprecedented pace, making it more popular than ever before! This year alone, some highly anticipated franchises have graced our screens, leaving fans in awe. Among the standout series adapted from manga and light novels are “Solo Leveling,” “Kaiju No. 8,” and “Wind Breaker.” These exceptional productions have truly made an impact this year!

2024’s autumn season is shaping up to be an exciting time for anime enthusiasts, as it promises several highly-anticipated shows set to debut. Despite August being light on releases, fans can still look forward to one of the year’s most significant anime premieres in September. Here’s a rundown of all the upcoming anime series slated for release next month.

Delico’s Nursery

Continuing From August

The series “Delico’s Nursery,” inspired by Kenichi Suemitsu’s hit stage play “Trump,” is a captivating fantasy anime. From 2020 to 2023, the author converted the play into five manga volumes, which have now concluded. A year later, this manga adaptation will make its debut on Crunchyroll, one of the most popular streaming platforms for anime. After the premiere of its first episode, the series has been well-received, with many praising it as a refreshing addition to the genre of vampire tales.

If you haven’t heard yet, the animated series Delico’s Nursery, produced by J.C. Staff, takes place in a magical realm where vampires have been in power for centuries until they unexpectedly lost their immortality. Now struggling to adapt to the modern world, these former immortals face threats from Pendulum, a ruthless group determined to wipe them out completely. Can the remaining vampire species survive and protect their kind?

Rick and Morty: The Anime

Continuing From August

When followers of the widely-loved animated series “Rick and Morty” discovered that it would have an anime adaptation, their excitement soared to incredible heights, making it one of the year’s most eagerly awaited premieres. However, the initial episode of “Rick and Morty: The Animated Series“, launched on Aug. 15, left viewers underwhelmed due to its struggles with cultural transition and uneven storytelling tempo.

It’s important to remember that we shouldn’t make a final judgment about an anime solely based on its early episodes. For instance, shows like “Ninja Kamui,” which started off exceptionally but lost steam as it progressed, serve as a reminder of this fact. Given that “Rick and Morty: The Anime” is set to have ten episodes, fans can anticipate some quality content throughout the series.

Uzumaki: Spiral Into Horror

Watch it on Adult Swim on Sep. 28

Acclaimed artist Junji Ito is known as one of the top horror manga creators throughout history, having written numerous chilling tales during his career, such as “Tomie,” “Gyo: Tokyo Fish Attack,” and “Uzumaki.” Of these, “Uzumaki” stands out as the epitome of manga horror, filled with countless detailed panels brimming with subtle foreshadowing. Although its story might not surpass that of some other series in terms of character development due to the limited scope of its setting, Ito makes up for it by weaving an intriguing mystery that greatly enriches the overall narrative.

Initially slated for release in 2020, “Uzumaki: Spiral Into Horror” was announced by Adult Swim back in 2019. However, a series of setbacks has caused the launch date to be moved to 2024. Despite the delays, fans can look forward to this intriguing anime production, as it is being animated by Production I.G., renowned for creating shows such as “Kaiju No. 8,” “Ghost in the Shell,” and “Haikyuu.” Adult Swim will handle distribution and production of the series.

In the quaint coastal town of Kurouzu-cho, there’s a longstanding belief that a curse centered around spirals has been causing distress among its residents for generations. High school students Kirie Goshima and Shuichi Saito find themselves entangled in an unusual occurrence involving spirals, which at first was just a minor anomaly in a school project. However, this strange phenomenon quickly spreads throughout the town, manifesting as otherworldly spirals that grow more unpredictable by the day. Meanwhile, Tamura, a tenacious reporter with a knack for solving mysteries, stumbles upon a peculiar spiral case and becomes fixated on unraveling it. The fate of Kurouzu-cho hangs in the balance as Kirie, Shuichi, and Tamura race against time to decipher this chain of terrifying events before their hometown is consumed by it.

The much-anticipated anime adaptation of the manga “Spiral” has arrived, but twenty years ago, a live-action movie version was released. This film deviates from key points in the original storyline and concludes prematurely, leaving out the last part of the source material. As a result, while “Spiral” is an excellent horror film on its own, it left many fans feeling let down because it didn’t live up to the original manga due to these departures from the source material.

The upcoming anime, boasting a visually stunning design due to its dark and atmospheric tone reminiscent of the manga, promises to be another hit for the horror genre. Similar successes include shows like “Another”, “Higurashi: When They Cry”, and “Ghost Hunt”. Mark your calendars as “Uzumaki: Spiral Into Horror” is set to debut on Adult Swim on September 28th.

2.5 Dimensional Seduction

Continuing From July

2.5 Dimensional Seduction (or 2.5-jigen no Ririsa in Japanese) is an engaging harem anime series that has captured the hearts of many viewers. Although its title might seem unclear, it’s a charming show that skillfully combines romantic elements, humor, and cosplay, offering a delightful viewing experience. The story often revolves around characters who are deeply immersed in Otaku Culture, with some eventually finding love in the real world.

2.5-Dimensional Seduction is a 24-episode anime series that unfolds every week during September, following the story of Masamune Okumura, a dejected sophomore in high school who escapes reality through the imaginative universes of anime and manga. Despite his current role as president of the Manga Research Club, his peaceful existence is disrupted by the arrival of Ririsa Amano, an ardent cosplayer, and Mikari Tachibana, a childhood friend returning to his life who harbors deep affection for Masamune. The storyline may inspire Masamune to start valuing real-life connections over virtual admiration.
