Netflixs Scream Meets Back to the Future Slasher, Time Cut, Gets Release Date

As a seasoned movie enthusiast who has spent countless hours huddled in dark theaters, my heart skips a beat at the mere mention of a new horror-sci-fi fusion flick. The upcoming Netflix release, “Time Cut”, promises to be a thrilling ride that seamlessly blends the timeless charm of ‘Back to the Future‘ with the chilling suspense of ‘Scream’.

This year’s highly anticipated sci-fi horror movie from Netflix, named “Time Cut,” is set to arrive on Halloween, October 30, 2024. This spine-tingling film combines the time-travel antics of “Back to the Future” with the chilling slasher elements of “Scream,” promising a thrilling, mind-bending experience for viewers this spooky season.

In my perspective as a movie reviewer, I recently had the pleasure of watching “Time Cut,” a captivating film directed by the talented Hannah MacPherson. Known for her work on the mystery thriller “T@gged” and fantasy drama series “School Spirits,” MacPherson teamed up with the creative mind behind the 2020 body-swap horror flick “Freaky” and last year’s Christmas horror comedy “It’s a Wonderful Knife,” Michael Kennedy, to co-write this intriguing piece.

You can check out the enticing (if brief) logline for Time Cut below.

In the year 2024, a teenager finds herself inadvertently transported back to the year 2003. Tragically, her sister is due to be murdered by an unidentified assailant wearing a mask just a few days later. The question arises: Can she alter the past without causing unintended damage to the future?

Disregarding the idea that returning to the year 2003 is almost a journey into ancient history, worthy of time travel, the logline intriguingly blends science fiction and slasher genres, evoking reminders of contemporary horror films such as “Happy Death Day” and “Totally Killer.” Horror enthusiasts will surely recognize the strong resemblance between “Time Cut” and “Totally Killer,” although they might not be aware that the former was actually made after the latter.

Time Cut Continues the Sci-Fi Horror Legacy

Time Cut gathers a diverse ensemble of actors who have previously appeared in various Netflix productions. This group includes Madison Bailey, known for her roles in Black Lightning and Outer Banks, Antonia Gentry from Ginny & Georgia, Raising Dion, and others; Michael Shanks, a familiar face in Virgin River and Altered Carbon; Griffin Gluck, star of Tall Girl and Locke & Key; Rachael Crawford, who has been seen in When Night Is Falling and Possessor; Jordan Pettle, recognized from Murdoch Mysteries and American Woman; Megan Best, actress in Nobody and Seance; Samuel Braun, featured in Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters and The Way Home; Sydney Sabiston, starring in All Fun and Games and Acting Good; and Kataem O’Connor, seen in The Way Home and Heartland.

Time travel tales and horror stories have often shared a common space, and “Time Cut” can be found among the ranks of titles such as “The Terminator,” “Triangle,” “Donnie Darko,” “Coherence,” “Timecrimes,” “Event Horizon,” “The Endless,” “Army of Darkness,” and others. These stories skillfully blend time travel complications with chilling horror for a thrilling, terrifying viewing experience.

Time Slice” is guaranteed to delight not just horror and sci-fi enthusiasts, but also us individuals who spent our formative years in the late 90s and early 2000s. Expect a plethora of pop culture nods, such as the Matrix sequels, the conclusion of The Lord of the Rings with Return of the King, the announcement that Friends would end after season 10, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s postponed wedding (quite a blast from the past), Ugg boots, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, The O.C., Pokémon cards, *NSYNC…it was indeed a golden era.

Time Cut
is scheduled to be released by Netflix on October 30, 2024.
