When Varun Dhawan thought SRK and Kajol were married; recalled feeling ‘galat’ when Gauri opened the door at Mannat

As a lifelong Bollywood enthusiast who grew up watching the magical pairing of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, it’s hard not to feel a tinge of nostalgia every time I revisit their iconic films. The way they effortlessly brought their characters to life on-screen made me believe that their love story was as real as the one unfolding in front of my eyes.

Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol are among the most legendary on-screen duos in Bollywood. Many viewers found it hard to believe they weren’t actually married off-screen. Even Varun Dhawan, as a child, thought the stars of “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” were an actual couple. In fact, he was taken aback when he saw Gauri Khan at Shah Rukh’s home.

In 2015, actors Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan, and Kriti Sanon appeared on the hit talk show “Comedy Nights With Kapil” to publicize their movie, Dilwale. During the chat, host Kapil Sharma reminisced about watching Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge in a cinema and shared that his mother thought Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol were actually married in real life.

In response, Varun also expressed his similar sentiments, saying, “As a child, I too believed it. I assumed everyone else was already married. It wasn’t until I met Gauri Khan that my perspective changed.”

He also shared a story about collecting donations for charity as a child with his friends. Curious if they could get a generous contribution from Shah Rukh’s home, Mannat, he went there. But instead of Shah Rukh, it was Gauri who answered the door. At that moment, he admitted feeling uneasy and said, “I had a strange feeling at the time.”

Delighted by Varun’s tale, the King actor playfully mimicked Varun, causing laughter among the crowd as he pondered what might have been going through Varun’s mind. At one point, Shah Rukh jokingly asked, “Who are you and what are you doing in Kajol’s house?” Later on, Varun returned home and shared the incident with his mother, who revealed that Gauri is actually married to Shah Rukh.

As a die-hard admirer, I can’t help but gush over the incredible cinematic journey shared by Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. From the thrilling twists of Baazigar, the timeless charm of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, the emotional bonds of Karan Arjun, the delightful romantic triangles in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, the family dramas of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, to the poignant tale of My Name Is Khan – their on-screen partnership has left an indelible mark on Indian cinema.

As a lifestyle expert speaking firsthand, I’m thrilled to share that my upcoming venture, Raj & DK’s Citadel: Honey Bunny, will make its grand debut on November 7, featuring the talented Samantha Ruth Prabhu as my co-star. Furthermore, I’ve also taken on a new role in Baby John, an exciting project directed by Kalees, and featuring Keerthy Suresh and Wamiqa Gabbi. This captivating film is produced by none other than Atlee, so get ready for some unforgettable moments!
