Sui’s Mysten Labs starts preorders for new gaming console: report

As a seasoned researcher with a keen interest in blockchain technology and gaming, I find myself intrigued by Mysten Labs’ latest venture – the SuiPlay0X1. With my fingers crossed, I eagerly await 2025, when this device promises to bring web3 features into the palm of our hands, merging the worlds of gaming and blockchain.

Mysten Labs, a company specializing in blockchain development, is now accepting pre-orders for their innovative gaming handheld device named SuiPlay0X1. This gadget is unique as it’s the first of its kind to incorporate the Sui blockchain, providing gamers with an immersive experience that includes web3 features.

As reported by Venture Beat on September 2nd, the company responsible for developing the Sui blockchain, Mysten Labs, is now accepting pre-orders for their latest gaming device, called the SuiPlay0X1.

The SuiPlay0X1, running on Playtron’s versatile game platform, boasts an AMD Ryzen 7 7840U processor, an AMD Ryzen 780M graphics card, 16 GB of RAM for smooth operation, and a 512GB SSD that can be expanded.

This device additionally features a 7-inch IPS screen without a bezel, offering a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. It’s capable of connecting via WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. With a weight of about 1.48 pounds, the SuiPlay0X1 is anticipated to rival the well-known Steam Deck, another gaming console developed by Valve.

SuiPlay0X1 to be delivered in 2025

The SuiPlay0X1, priced at $600 including shipping and tax, can be bought using digital currencies like Sui (SUI), Ethereum (ETH), or Solana (SOL). Pre-orders are currently being accepted until all units are sold out; the first thousand buyers will receive a unique, non-tradeable token as a bonus, which offers exclusive access, rewards, and benefits. According to the report, deliveries are planned to start in 2025.

Although the specific blockchain capabilities of the console are still uncertain, it’s known that the device is designed to run popular PC games from platforms such as Epic Games and Steam by default. Additionally, it will serve as a platform for games powered by Sui technology.

Mysten Labs’ recent release is aligned with a broader movement of blockchain firms delving into the gaming market. Case in point, Zilliqa, a blockchain ecosystem, announced its own web3 game console back in September 2022, blending gaming and cryptocurrency mining. Yet, none of these web3 companies have yet garnered widespread acceptance within the gaming industry.
