‘I Flat Out Can’t Answer That Question’: The Wanda Maximoff Question That Made Agatha All Along’s Creative Team Uncomfortable

As a long-time Marvel fan, I must admit that the anticipation for each new release is always palpable. From street-level heroes to cosmic adventures, Marvel Studios never fails to keep us on our toes. The upcoming “Agatha All Along” is no exception, especially since it delves into the magical realm of the MCU, a territory I’ve been eagerly waiting to explore more deeply.

Regardless of the number of projects Marvel Studios releases in a particular year, their creative team is consistently focused on expanding and enriching their Cinematic Universe. This includes street-level stories such as Echo or Daredevil: Born Again, cosmic narratives driven by Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) and the Guardians of the Galaxy, and for those with a Disney+ subscription, the upcoming spinoff Agatha All Along, which further develops Marvel’s magical realm, particularly characters like Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen).

In the finale of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” the Scarlet Witch made a self-sacrificing attempt to destroy the Darkhold, a malevolent grimoire. Many spectators are skeptical that Wanda truly perished, but this question may be addressed in the upcoming Vision series on the streaming platform. Meanwhile, “Agatha All Along” follows Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) and her new coven as they traverse The Witches’ Road to reclaim power. However, during a recent press event, the creators of Agatha All Along were deliberately vague when I inquired if Wanda had ever ventured along the Witches’ Road.

Initially, we’ll focus on Jac Schaeffer, a key figure behind the scenes of WandaVision, who subtly hinted about Wanda’s connection to the Witches’ Path when speaking with TopMob.

Instead of directly addressing the question, I can express my enthusiasm for the intricate role the Witches’ Road plays in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s witch folklore. In other words, it’s a significant element within the MCU’s witch realm. That statement is correct.

Sure thing!

After the Multiverse of Madness, it appears that Wanda has been removed from play due to her involvement with the Darkhold. Consequently, this series is primarily focused on Agatha and her past, offering fans an exciting opportunity to delve deeper into her history.

It’s widely anticipated that Wanda Maximoff will continue to be a captivating character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Her powers, which make her one of the most potent heroes/villains in the universe, are such that when the MCU eventually introduces mutants, Wanda should undoubtedly be at the forefront of discussions. This is why many fans don’t buy into the idea that Wanda “died” at the end of the Doctor Strange sequel. There’s clearly more of her story left to unfold. As Marvel Studios Executive Producer Brad Winderbaum stated to TopMob:

In my opinion, it’s safe to say that Agatha plays a pivotal role in the narrative of Wanda’s mythology. Essentially, we can consider this as Agatha’s show, and if you’re a fan of Wanda, this journey will be particularly enjoyable for you.

Bravo, Brad! It seems our last unique Marvel tale for 2024 is approaching its end, but fret not, as there’s an abundance of Marvel productions set to debut in 2025. Kicking off the action will be Anthony Mackie’s premiere as a leading Captain America actor in his movie, scheduled for release in February 2025. Get ready for a busy year in Marvel universe, starting with the series Agatha All Along, streaming on Disney+ from September 18.
