Rishi Kapoor's Birth Anniversary: When he sent telegram to Neetu Kapoor after Kabhi Kabhie shoot; 'Sikhni badi yaad aati hai'

As an ardent admirer of the timeless charm and charisma of Rishi Kapoor, I find myself constantly enthralled by his captivating journey through the world of Bollywood. His story is not just about the silver screen, but also about a beautiful love story that unfolded behind it.

Rishi Kapoor, born to parents Raj Kapoor and Krishna Raj Kapoor, is known for his exceptional acting skills in Hindi cinema. Making his screen debut in 1970 as a young version of Raj Kapoor in the film Mera Naam Joker, directed by his father, he later played his first lead role in his dad’s 1973 production, Bobby. Rishi, who tied the knot with Neetu Kapoor, once admitted to sending a message expressing his longing for his co-star after wrapping up the shoot of Kabhi Kabhie.

Today, as we celebrate Rishi Kapoor’s birthday (September 4), let’s reminisce about a heartwarming story from his past. Back in the day, Rishi Kapoor confessed that he deeply missed Neetu Kapoor during their early years. His longing was so strong that he sent her a telegram! This charming tale was shared by Rishi during an interview on Comedy Nights With Kapil in 2015 when host Kapil Sharma asked about who made the first move between them.

Back in the groovy ’70s, when we were making Kabhi Kabhie, I, Rishi Kapoor, found myself seated next to none other than the radiant Neetu Kapoor during our shared commute between shooting shifts – two halves of a whole, traveling together in the same car. As time went by, that casual connection transformed into a deep affection for her. It’s an experience I hold dear to this very day.

Following the wrap-up of the Kabhi Kabhie film shoot, I found myself jetting off to Spain for another movie project. On one particular evening, I was struck by an overwhelming wave of emotion. If only mobile phones were around back then or if there were trunk calls that didn’t take so long, it would have made those moments less poignant.

He mentioned that he had dispatched a message to Neetu along the lines of “I often think about you, dear,” using telegram service. Rishi Kapoor went on to share an incident where upon receiving his telegram in Srinagar, Neetu started rushing around and informing people on set that he was yearning for her.
