Universal Orlando's 2024 Halloween Horror Nights Houses Ranked, Including A Quiet Place

As a die-hard horror enthusiast and frequent visitor to Universal Studios Florida, I must say that this year’s Halloween Horror Nights lineup has been nothing short of exhilarating! From the gory prequel of Formzone to the all-female monster battle in Eternal Bloodlines, the event has truly outdone itself.

If you’ve felt a slightly eerie atmosphere in the Orlando region lately, there’s an explanation: Halloween Horror Nights is set to return in 2024. This annual spectacle serves as the premier event of Universal Orlando Resort’s yearly calendar. Many enthusiasts eagerly anticipate it, and this time around, there are 10 entirely new houses for fans to explore.

This year’s theme revolved around the contrast between physical and mental torment, showcasing both gruesome and psychological aspects. The primary characters were SINIST3R, who represented physical pain, torture, and gore, and SURR3AL, symbolizing psychological torment and fear. These elements were evident in the haunted zones and houses. Some attractions focused on physical horror, while others played with your perceptions and senses. To navigate the park, you had to pick between the realms of SINIST3R or SURR3AL first, then proceed through their respective domains.

In 2024, among the HHN (Halloween Horror Nights) houses, some stood out as exceptional experiences. TopMob had a sneak peek at all ten of them this year, and here’s our assessment, ranked from best to good:

10. Triplets of Terror

The Barmy Triplets are the main attractions in this residence. Originally, Universal had envisioned a single slasher, but they opted for three instead. Although the history of the house isn’t entirely evident by just strolling through it, “murderous triplets you’d rather avoid” is straightforward enough to grasp.

This house had an eerie atmosphere. The combination of shrieks and innocent giggles created a sense of unease. Recently, this house has been drawing criticism on TikTok due to a deceased dog, which might offend some viewers, but it does underscore how unsettling things can get.

9. Slaughter Sinema 2

If you’re an enthusiast of Halloween Horror Nights, it’s likely that you also appreciate horror films. While attending a bloody murder scene at the cinema is one experience, experiencing the terror as the victim is a completely different story.

This residence hails from 2018. The intricacy in the design of the movie posters is quite impressive, especially for fans of classic cinema or nostalgia enthusiasts. For those who enjoy B-movies, it’s fascinating to witness various film ideas materialize into chilling reality.

8. The Museum: Deadly Exhibits

Museums can sometimes feel eerily unsettling due to the numerous relics from cultures that no longer exist. Adding a touch of supernatural elements, like these artifacts coming to life, definitely adds an extra layer of creepiness.

This house boasts intricate design details that give it a museum-like quality, making you truly believe you’re stepping into an art exhibit. Moreover, the special effects for the actors and the props are exceptionally well-done.

6. A Quiet Place

People were curious about what Universal Studios had planned for an HHN (Halloween Horror Nights) house based on the movie “A Quiet Place”, given that sound is often a crucial element in creating fear within houses. However, this house initially seems calm, but it doesn’t take long before things get loud. The dominant noise throughout the house was crying babies, which adds to the sense of unease and discomfort.

They excellently executed the concept, acknowledging that completely silencing people was unattainable. However, they respectfully adhered by causing the scary actors portraying panicked mothers with crying babies. Moreover, numerous attendees attempted to be quiet, and when successful, it enhanced the remarkable atmosphere of this distinct residence.

5.  Major Sweets Candy Factory

Over time, several highly-anticipated Halloween Horror Nights attractions have been inspired by well-known horror movies. However, as the event has progressed, it has also generated its own tales, personas, and folklore. A few years back, we introduced the Major Sweets scarezone, which proved so appealing that this year, it advanced to a full house.

Essentially, the house serves as a prelude to the narrative from the prior haunted location. This tale, while straightforward, carries an air of authenticity, featuring undead children on the rampage attempting to eliminate you. The depiction is quite grisly.

4. Eternal Bloodlines

In the upcoming expansion of Dark Universe to Epic Universe Park, we’ll encounter classic Universal Monsters in fresh perspectives. This year at HHN, we’ve already caught a glimpse of this transformation through Eternal Bloodlines.

In a new twist, it’s a group of female monsters going up against Saskia Van Helsing, the last heir of the Van Helsing family (daughter of Abraham Van Helsing). The Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula’s daughter, and the She-Wolf have formed an alliance to eliminate the Van Helsing bloodline.

3. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

This year, a new “Ghostbusters” movie graced theater screens, although it didn’t exactly ignite the box office, it certainly makes for an excellent foundation for a Halloween Horror Nights (HHN) house. Every now and then, a break from all the scary elements is needed, and “Frozen Empire” provided that change.

In this home, the animatronics were simply amazing! It seemed as if we had stepped into the world of the movie “Frozen Empire.” Just as expected, there was a mix of laughter and frights. Familiar characters (both new and old) graced our presence, and there were no hints about what was to come. However, before leaving the house, one of our favorite parts awaited us. This section served as a refreshing break from the gory aspects.

2. Monstruous: Monsters of Latin America

In 2023, Monsters of Latin America stood out as one of the top attractions during Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood. This house, exclusive to the West Coast last year, was a delightful addition to the lineup this time around, allowing another audience the chance to immerse themselves in its terrors. The move was indeed worthwhile.

The monsters may not be well known by everybody, but that only makes them more terrifying. They brought Latin American legends Tlahuelpuchi, La Lechuza and El Silbón to Orlando. It is a very graphic house with babies being eaten.

1. Insidious: The Further

This house was remarkably scary. The jump-scare factor here is through the roof. Scares pop up quickly and frequently, making it undeniably the scariest of all houses in 2024. The atmosphere is confusingly unsettling, putting you on edge right from the start.

Year after year, HHN continuously expands its horizons. By breathing life into classic tales and unearthing fresh narratives from various parts of the globe and cinematic annals, the event offers an enjoyable experience for both dedicated horror enthusiasts and casual viewers. Moreover, it is filled with hidden gems… if you can manage to focus amidst the screams.

Halloween Horror Nights is running at Universal Studios Florida until November 3, while the Universal Studios Hollywood edition starts this weekend. Both events feature unique haunted houses, such as one themed around The Weeknd in the Hollywood version.
