Despite this, it retains the highest number of subscribers, as reported by Forbes. Contrary to this seemingly positive statistic, maintaining customer satisfaction is far from their reality.
People have expressed their frustration with the company due to recurring price increases, limiting account sharing, and canceling shows. Another issue that’s causing discontent is the cancellation of series, whether they are newly introduced or well-liked in their second or third seasons. It seems that Netflix chooses carefully which programs to continue funding in 2024.
Let’s mourn these Netflix series that have already been canceled this year.
8 Obliterated (2023)
Wiped out is a comedy-drama that follows a group of U.S. military forces and intelligence agents as they collaborate to thwart an impending terrorist attack in Las Vegas. The team comprises a CIA agent, Navy SEAL members, a Marine Corps sniper, and an Air Force pilot, among other professionals. The mastermind behind this operation is Ava. In the first episode titled “Real American Heroes,” the group engages in a high-stakes game of cat-and-mouse with a Russian operative. Ultimately, they manage to apprehend him. However, as they celebrate their success, Ava suspects that there might still be more work to do.
A Bit Too Inane
The show “Obliterated” is often described by fans and critics alike as absurd, nonsensical, and overly theatrical. While some find its lack of seriousness appealing for an occasional indulgence, others struggle to get past a few episodes. In fact, it seems that not being able to stomach the show was more common, as Netflix decided to discontinue the series after just one season consisting of eight episodes. Compared to shows like “The Boys” and its spin-offs, many believe these series handle this concept much more effectively.
7 Buying Beverly Hills (2022)
Netflix offers a variety of reality shows, with many focusing on dating. However, if you’re more interested in architecture, interior design, or luxury real estate, then Buying Beverly Hills could be right up your alley. This show is about Mauricio Umansky, the head of an agency named The Agency, and his family as they juggle running their business while dealing with personal issues and internal power struggles. The series offers a peek into the opulent properties they’re trying to sell, as well as the agents working tirelessly to make those sales happen.
Expensive Real Estate & Production
A real estate reality TV series may have always appealed to a limited number of viewers. Nevertheless, featuring Kyle Richards from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills attracted a larger following. Her separation from Mauricio arguably marked the beginning of its downfall. Unfortunately, the show was terminated after only two seasons in August 2024 due to disappointing ratings, as reported by Deadline. While adults might find themselves occasionally chuckling awkwardly at some of the jokes, it’s generally a pleasant viewing experience. The animation is well-done, and there’s always an enjoyable plot unfolding in each episode. However, despite its decent streaming numbers, it didn’t quite measure up to Netflix’s recent shift towards adult content, leading to its cancellation after two seasons and nineteen episodes.
5 Break Point (2023)
2023 saw Netflix joining forces with the Association of Tennis Professionals and Women’s Tennis Association to bring “Break Point” onto our screens worldwide. This riveting documentary series delves deep into the lives of professional tennis players, capturing their relentless preparations for global tournaments. From the hallowed grounds of the French Open to the Australian Open, viewers get an unprecedented glimpse into the grueling work that precedes each match. The diverse cast of players, representing countries such as Italy, Norway, Canada, Greece, and the United States, underscores the truly international nature of this sport.
Disappointing Ratings
In March 2024, the steamy romantic drama Challengers, starring Zendaya, is set for release. Despite this, another tennis-themed movie titled Break Point did not manage to garner a dedicated fanbase.
In various analyses, it’s been questioned why the documentary failed to gain widespread appeal. One possibility is that tennis isn’t widely appreciated as a sport. Another theory suggests Netflix could have attracted more viewers by featuring more well-known players. It’s also possible that the popular Formula 1 docuseries Drive to Survive raised the bar too high. Regardless of the explanation, the documentary Break Point concluded its run in January 2024.

Regrettably, the show was prematurely canceled before we could even start filming.
“The current mindset, which often thinks a show isn’t valuable if it doesn’t garner 16 million views within the first month, is quite discouraging. I believe there are many individuals who shy away from backing a new series, understanding that it could potentially be canceled.”
3 Dead Boy Detectives (2024)
In the series called “Ghostly Private Investigators“, Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland tragically lost their lives in 1916 and 1989 respectively, due to unfortunate incidents involving their peers. Despite their untimely demise, they shunned the peace of the afterlife and instead teamed up at an agency specializing in solving cases that involve ghostly activities or otherworldly phenomena. Their primary liaison with the living world is Crystal Palace, a gifted psychic who can converse with spirits.
A Surprise to Many
This series blended the drama of typical teen shows with an element of suspense and puzzling elements because of its supernatural theme. The characters Edwin and Charles stood out, which is not surprising given their prominent roles in the show’s title. Although viewers didn’t anticipate Dead Boy Detectives to receive any accolades, they appreciated it for its unique qualities.
Given its impressive Rotten Tomatoes rating and substantial viewer time, it appeared certain that a second season would follow. However, the unexpected cancellation news in August 2024 left fans stunned. It’s clear that nothing is immune to change at Netflix headquarters.
2 The Brothers Sun (2024)
In the series titled “The Brothers Sun“, Bruce resides in sun-kissed Los Angeles, leading an ordinary life. However, his tranquility is disrupted when his brother Charles arrives from Taiwan. It’s then revealed that their family heads the Jade Dragons, a formidable group of assassins – a fact Bruce’s mother had never disclosed throughout his life. After their father is fatally wounded by a rival assassin, Bruce finds himself entangled in this perilous realm. The Brothers Sun offers an adrenaline-pumping blend of action, humor, and drama, with its narrative revolving around a tumultuous family at the heart of the story.
A Quick Cut
Despite some series on the list being unexpectedly cancelled, it wasn’t a shock to many viewers that this particular show was ending. Although fans had enjoyed watching the brothers, particularly Bruce, battle ruthless killers, they couldn’t ignore the fact that ratings were dismal compared to other shows with higher viewership. Given that those shows with stronger numbers were also cancelled, it seemed only natural that this one would meet the same fate. The first season was aired in January 2024, and news of its cancellation came swiftly in March.
1 Ratched (2020)
Ratched is a chilling precursor to the 1975 movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, featuring Sarah Paulson in the main role as Nurse Mildred, who manages patients at a mental institution during the 1940s. At first, Mildred appears to be an exemplary figure in her profession. However, the suspenseful nature of the series hints that there’s a darker aspect to Mildred’s character, which gradually emerges over time.
Couldn’t Get On Board
There are many appealing aspects to “Ratched”. The stage settings live up to the high standards typically seen in productions backed by Netflix. Sarah Paulson delivers a strong performance, although some viewers may have reservations about her character and certain plot devices that seem contrived to advance the story.
Remaking classic characters from past works for modern shows is often a challenging endeavor. On some occasions, it proves successful, like in the case of Netflix’s series Wednesday, which follows Wednesday Addams. However, there are instances where it doesn’t work out well, such as with Ratched. The show was initially given a second season, but later on, that decision was reversed.
