Screenwriter Jon Spaihts, known for his work on ‘Dune’, will take on his first directorial role with a science fiction thriller that was revealed during the Toronto Film Festival on Thursday
Independent studio Laika is creating a film centered around a woman who’s probing a mystery that transpired during a week she can’t recall. Writer-producer Spaihts, with experience in science fiction productions, has been enlisted for the project. Apart from Dune and its sequel Dune 2, his other screenwriting accomplishments include collaborating with Damon Lindelof on Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, penning Passengers , and contributing to Marvel’s Doctor Strange
Spaihts earned an Oscar nomination for the best adapted screenplay category for his contribution to the script of the film ‘Dune’. He collaborated on the script with director Denis Villeneuve and Eric Roth. If Warner Bros. Discovery decides to produce a potential ‘Dune 3’ or extend the ‘Dune’ universe beyond currently announced projects, they might consider assigning additional tasks to Spaihts
