‘The View’ Hosts Slam Anna Delvey’s ‘Dancing With the Stars’ Casting: “What the Hell, Man?”

It seems like a blatant slap in the face to every hardworking individual fighting for their right to be here, and to families torn apart by the system.

The panelists on “The View” aren’t thrilled about Anna Delvey participating in the upcoming season of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars.”

Anna Sorokin, also known as Delvey, gained notoriety as the convicted imposter who allegedly swindled high-society figures in Manhattan out of substantial sums of money, merchandise, and services. This tale was detailed in Jessica Pressler’s article for New York magazine and later brought to life on Netflix’s Inventing Anna, where Julia Garner portrayed Delvey and Shonda Rhimes served as the executive producer

In 2021, Delvey completed a four-year prison sentence but remains under house arrest as she battles her deportation case. When queried about her decision to participate in ABC’s reality dance competition, Delvey disclosed that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had given her the necessary approval

She admitted to The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday that she reluctantly agreed to participate, having secured approval from ICE beforehand. By then, it seemed there was no turning back. Additionally, she’ll be equipped with an ankle monitor during the competition

On the airing of The View (which is also shown on ABC), host Whoopi Goldberg shared her views regarding the casting decision and Delvey’s statement about seeking approval

As a gamer, I can’t help but reflect on the countless families who’ve experienced the heartbreaking ordeal of loved ones being detained by ICE. These are people who’ve bravely fought for justice in the courts, hoping to reunite with their father, brother, or mother. This woman was given permission to take action – and it leaves me questioning, is there a double standard at play here with ICE? Is there perhaps a system where some individuals receive more leniency than others?

Co-host Sunny Hostin added: “She defrauded numerous people and served approximately two years in prison, followed by an additional 18 months for overstaying her visa. This means she committed another offense. But what seems to be the outcome? A blinged-up ankle bracelet and a position on a television program.”

“I like a come-up, but when are there consequences to people’s actions?” Hostin asked.

Joy Behar suggested ABC release a spinoff series called Dancing with the Felons.

Alyssa Farah Griffin, one of the co-hosts, pointed out that she supports the idea of a redemption story, but only when the individual has acknowledged their mistakes and taken full responsibility for them. However, it appears that Delvey hasn’t done this yet as she still owes money to people. As a rule, con artists often continue being con artists

When Behar mentioned that Delvey was staying on the show due to her attractiveness, Goldberg countered, “That’s rather frustrating. Now, don’t get me wrong, I appreciate attractive individuals as well. But right now, I’m hearing people complain about what’s happening at the border, and I hear complaints about those who shouldn’t be here… What’s going on?”
