Paul Harrell, YouTube Gun Safety Advocate, Announces His Own Death in Video Message

As a dedicated follower of Paul Harrell‘s channel for years, I must say that his passing has left a deep void in the gun safety community and beyond. His tireless dedication to educating others about firearm safety, responsible usage, and advocacy for gun rights was truly inspiring.

58-year-old YouTuber and gun safety advocate, known as Paul Harrell, shared news of his passing through a pre-recorded video that went live on YouTube on Wednesday.

On December 20th, I found myself perched on a snow-dusted log outside my Oregon home, feeling compelled to share some deeply personal news. Back in July, I was devastated to learn that I had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer – a diagnosis that came as quite a shock. Although the initial prognosis gave me hope for more time, the relentless advancement of this aggressive disease has left my bones brittle and fragile. With a heavy heart, I’m confronting the reality that I may not have as much time left as I once dared to hope.

He begins his last video by stating that he’s making a recording and instructing Brad Nelson, his manager, to release it after his passing. Therefore, if you are seeing this video now, then I have unfortunately passed away.

A while back, I shared with all of you that I’d been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and that they had caught it early, meaning we would have more time together. However, it turns out the cancer was more advanced than I initially believed. He conveyed this to his 1.2 million subscribers.

He mentioned that his time was running out, following the disclosure that he had fractured his hip and was now relying on a crutch for movement.

Back in 2012, a veteran of both the U.S. Army and Marines Corps, Harrell, started his channel on what’s informally known as “GunTube” – a platform dedicated to gun-related content. His channel centered around guns, gun rights, firearm safety, and responsible use of firearms, as mentioned in an obituary published on legacy.com.

Harrell expressed gratitude towards his fans and viewers in his goodbye video, admitting that he felt he had disappointed them all by being unable to continue producing videos due to his passing.

He explained that his main purpose behind everything was indeed to enjoy himself and engage in enjoyable activities, but mainly to share valuable or at least fascinating information. His ultimate wish is that by observing him, you’ve encountered moments that made you think, ‘Ah, now I understand,’ or ‘I see it clearly.’

He also expressed his deep regrets, explaining that he had anticipated carrying on in this fashion for another decade or perhaps longer. Even upon receiving the diagnosis, he had believed we would have a couple more years together, but it seems it will only be a few months now. He offered his apologies for this unexpected turn of events. It’s left him feeling like he has disappointed everyone.

As a gamer, wrapping up this incredible journey, I must admit I didn’t rehearse this part, but the heartfelt sentiment is genuine. It’s been an absolute pleasure to embark on these adventures with you all. I truly hope that this experience has been as enriching for you as it has been for me. Lastly, I can’t help but feel grateful for your comments, interactions, and companionship throughout this journey. There aren’t many things in this gaming world that I would change about our time together here.

In the video, Harrell’s sibling, Roy, enters the frame to confirm that Paul has tragically passed away. He expresses his deep sorrow over this heartrending news.

Roy expressed that he wanted me to preserve his memory via this medium,” he stated. “He will continue to inspire us.

Later on, Nelson, who is Harrell’s manager, reveals that Harrell’s impactful work will persist, with them consistently uploading content to the channel and disseminating complimentary gun safety advice.

“He was a very generous and kind guy and told the best campfire stories,” Nelson tells his fans.

Besides his brother, it’s said that Harell is also survived by his wife, Mary Harrell. Tributes honoring Harrell have been shared widely on X (previously known as Twitter), with fans expressing their sorrow by stating “we’ve lost a legend” and expressing hope that he will be remembered for his significant impact on our country.
