Stree 2: Amar Kaushik says similarities of movie’s poster with Stranger Things were 'co-incidental' but could’ve been ‘avoided’

As a dedicated fan of both Bollywood and Stranger Things, I must admit that the resemblance between Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s Stree 2 poster and the Stranger Things poster did not go unnoticed. However, after hearing Amar Kaushik’s explanation, I find it hard to blame them for the coincidence. After all, great minds think alike, right? Or in this case, great designers, perhaps!

As a lifestyle connoisseur, let me tell you from my own perspective, the duo of Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s Stree 2 has been dominating the box office with an unstoppable charm. At first glance, some sharp-eyed fans noticed an uncanny resemblance between the initial posters of this horror-comedy and the Stranger Things poster. Yet, the talented director Amar Kaushik has clarified that the similarity was purely coincidental.

As a devoted admirer, I must confess that when I first saw the Stree 2 poster, I appreciated its uniqueness without suspecting any similarity to Stranger Things. However, it wasn’t until later that I recognized the striking resemblance. I acknowledge the discernment of the audience, knowing they would spot plagiarism promptly. I understand their feelings, but let me clarify, the resemblance was unintentional. If I had known earlier, we would have certainly taken measures to avoid it.

In a discussion, it was claimed that some aspects of Stree 2 bore resemblance to Harry Potter. When questioned about this, Amar admitted that he hadn’t seen the Harry Potter film series, but his team had and they would point out similarities if any existed. However, Amar did acknowledge that he was familiar with Stranger Things.

In Kaushik’s unique universe of “Stree,” the narrative is deeply rooted in rich cultural traditions, unlike other films mentioned. For instance, in “Stree 2,” it was Vicky’s goodness that enabled him to wield the sword, and even in the first film, Stree could be defeated due to his innocence. Essentially, Raj doesn’t possess any supernatural powers in this movie; instead, his kindness and innocence serve as his unique strengths, as Amar explained.

Discussing Stree 2, it stars Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurrana as the main characters, while Varun Dhawan, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Akshay Kumar make captivating appearances in cameo roles. The third installment of Stree has already been confirmed, with production beginning back in 2018.
