Amitabh Bachchan could’ve prevented his split with Javed Akhtar believes Salim Khan; ‘Mat chodo accha khasa tumhari ek…’

As a long-time admirer of the Bollywood industry and the legendary figures who have shaped it, I find myself reflecting on the intriguing dynamics between Salim Khan, Javed Akhtar, and Amitabh Bachchan.

In simpler terms, Salim Khan, a seasoned filmmaker and scriptwriter, expressed that his partnership with Javed Akhtar might have continued for a longer time if Amitabh Bachchan had stepped in to mediate their differences.

During a chat with NDTV, the renowned movie director Salim Khan was questioned about the point in time when he and Javed Akhtar decided to separate, which might have affected Amitabh Bachchan, given their lengthy and fruitful partnerships in the past.

Reflecting on the situation, I couldn’t help but feel that Akhtar must have been affected by his actions. In fact, if I were in his shoes, I would have strongly advised him against it. ‘Why let go of a wonderful partnership when things are going smoothly and everything seems to be in order?’, I would have said, encouraging him to keep moving forward instead of ending something promising.’ That’s the approach I would have taken.

As a devoted follower, if I were in that situation, I might have advised Big B to intervene, which could have led them to reconsider their union. However, Salim Khan admitted it may not have happened. Yet, had I been there, I would’ve urged Akhtar to rethink his decision, expressing my thoughts as, “I don’t know what he said, but if I were there, this is what I would’ve suggested.

He continued to laud Bachchan, noting that they maintain a connection. They frequently cross paths, yet as he mentioned, the Paa star rarely resorts to sharp words or forges deep bonds with others.

In the midst of our chat, he reminisced about a moment when Akhtar mentioned wanting to venture into films individually, and I found myself nodding in agreement. He emphasized, “No one can be compelled to speak,” he asserted.

He further continued by mentioning that he even today doesn’t know why they part ways. “Ho gaya toh ho gaya (It’s okay if they got separated),” he remarked, revealing that they had so many emotions after working for so many years. He went on to point out that no other script of that level ever came into the industry after their split.

Instead of discussing their separation with others, the seasoned screenwriter chose to keep it private. Nevertheless, they still met on occasion. He recalled frequently walking past Akhtar’s residence. He disclosed that they used to exchange friendly waves, maintaining a strong bond of friendship throughout.
