Todd Snyder SS25 Brought the French Riviera's Dandy to New York City

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the vibrant world of fashion, I must admit that Todd Snyder’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection left me absolutely spellbound! Coming back to the Big Apple after such a long hiatus, he managed to create an intimate and luxurious atmosphere reminiscent of the glamourous 1920s Riviera. The collection was a perfect blend of elegance, relaxation, and innovation – much like a well-crafted video game level where every detail is meticulously designed for maximum enjoyment!

Prior to Sunday, Todd Snyder, a designer based in New York, hadn’t organized a runway event in New York City for close to five years. His last show was actually held overseas, in Florence during Pitti Uomo in January; and before that, he had been absent from the catwalk for four years. However, after a nearly half-decade hiatus, designer Todd Snyder decided to welcome a group of 50 people to Le Rock restaurant at Rockefeller Center to celebrate his return to New York: an intimate salon-style event that was beautifully adorned with iced teas, champagne glasses, and dainty dessert platters.

According to Snyder, the show in Italy was an unforgettable experience for him, but he yearned for a drastic change. He desired a project that would be the complete opposite of what he had already done. Specifically, he wanted something that would allow people not only to see the clothes, but also feel them, as fashion, in his opinion, is about challenging and exceeding expectations.

Entitled “Villa America,” the Spring/Summer 2025 collection was influenced by an American expatriate on the French Riviera in the 1920s. The title itself is a subtle reference to the home of Gerald and Sarah Murphy in Antibes, a place often visited by artists such as Picasso, Cole Porter, and F. Scott Fitzgerald.

In this style, the refined moldboard nurtured suits in trendy glaze pastels from the late 1980s and early 1990s. As Snyder expressed, what he adores about modern tailoring is its exploration. It’s a delicate dance between maintaining a laid-back aesthetic while ensuring an elegant fit. He combined Anglo-American cuts with Milanese drapery, which has since become a unique fusion in his brand’s growing collection. The process, according to him, rekindled his fondest feelings about fashion design: “The allure of draping, the thrill of discovering a new, opulent fabric, the challenges of crafting a pattern – all these aspects take me back to when I first learned how to make a suit.

One-word summary for the show by Snyder: Elegant. With its classic New York backdrop, the stylishly dapper fashion, and the models casually strolling through the restaurant setting, it was undeniably a high-class event.
