Reports from The Hollywood Reporter indicate that the actor has declined an opportunity to play a role in the upcoming DC Studios series, “Lanterns,” which is inspired by the Green Lanterns superhero.
Actor Brolin has been tapped for the role of Hal Jordan, the self-assured Green Lantern character who was portrayed by Ryan Reynolds in the unsuccessful 2011 film “Green Lantern.” According to various reports, Brolin received an offer at the end of August. By the close of this past weekend, he had made his decision. Further details are not yet disclosed.
The upcoming eight-episode series, titled Lanterns, boasts a distinguished lineage with Chris Mundy serving as showrunner, who is also known for his work on Ozark. Collaborating with him in the writing process are Damon Lindelof, creator of HBO’s hit series Watchmen and renowned TV show Lost, as well as Tom King, a recipient of the Eisner Award for his work in comics. Currently, the team is in the process of hiring directors and casting actors. The production plans to film from January to June next year in Atlanta.
Brolin’s latest role would have added another comic book credit to his portfolio. He is well-versed in the genre, with notable performances as Thanos in James Gunn’s Marvel Cinematic Universe films “Guardians of the Galaxy,” as well as in “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame,” directed by the Russo Brothers.
