I Think Tracker Totally Has Spinoff Potential. What The EP Thinks About More Right Now

As a dedicated fan of Tracker, I can’t help but feel that the show is just getting started. With its captivating storylines and exceptional cast, it’s only natural to dream of diving deeper into this intriguing universe. Characters like Russell Shaw, Dory Shaw, and Billie, played by Jensen Ackles, Melissa Roxburgh, and Sofia Pernas, respectively, have the potential to carry their own stories in a spinoff.

The popular TV series “Tracker,” starring Justin Hartley, will be returning for its second season in 2024, following the success of its initial run. The CBS drama captivated audiences after its Super Bowl debut and added fuel to its popularity with the inclusion of Jensen Ackles and Melissa Roxburgh as Hartley’s siblings, creating a compelling and well-balanced cast. Given the numerous stories yet to be explored and the talented actors available, it seems logical that “Tracker” would grow in scope. However, one executive producer has revealed that a spinoff is not currently being considered…but stay tuned!

Using Tracker as a foundation, there are several intriguing characters who could star in spin-offs. For instance, delving deeper into Russell Shaw and Dory Shaw portrayed by Ackles and Roxburgh, or Billie played by Sofia Pernas, a fellow tracker, seems promising. This setup appears conducive to creating additional high-quality series within this world. Such expansions would provide an opportunity to delve into the histories of other characters, as Colter is the primary focus in the main show. I believe many fans would welcome such an exploration.

On the other hand, as reported by TVLine, showrunner and executive producer Elwood Reid suggested that this might not be the optimal choice, at least for the time being.

The humor lies in the fact that all my buddies keep suggesting I should consider developing a standalone series, but… Launching second seasons can be quite challenging. I’ve observed it with productions that prematurely branch off, only to find that both shows struggle as a result.

It’s understandable why Reid isn’t keen on a spinoff immediately, given how popular the Tracker series is currently, with Hartley being likened to CBS star Mark Harmon. However, the show is still developing its foundation and wants to focus on expanding this one universe before branching out into others. Even though there are numerous other stories and characters that could be explored in a spinoff, it appears as though Reid doesn’t want that quite yet.

Generally speaking, Tracker remains relatively fresh, with a vast landscape yet to be discovered and numerous personalities waiting to be encountered.

Moving into Season 2, Ackles will make appearances for several episodes, while Pernas too will reappear. Meanwhile, Colter’s mission of locating missing individuals across the country continues, with each episode introducing him to fresh environments and characters, as Reid noted.

The program is uniquely focused around Justin, so it’s crucial for us to continue broadening the storyline, exploring different scenarios, and pushing the limits of Tracker’s capabilities. Unlike many other shows, such as police dramas set in New York or Chicago that primarily deal with homicides, I have the freedom to delve into any setting. I can explore stock car racing, Nashville, or any world that catches my interest.

It would be advantageous for the Tracker to incorporate guest stars more frequently, ideally doing so when a character or plotline seems ripe for further exploration or development.

It’s delightful how the series tackles numerous tales within each episode and introduces fresh characters weekly. Yet, there are several stories I crave for more depth, and a spin-off might provide just that solution.

It’d be intriguing to find out more about Billie’s activities as a tracker, especially her complex past with Colter. However, featuring Jensen Ackles might pose challenges, given his current involvement in not just one but two Amazon series. Jennifer Morrison’s character could potentially lead to a spin-off. In summary, there are many possibilities, and I hope that one of these characters eventually gets their own show.

It’s apparent that the success of Tracker indicates a possibility for spinoffs, and it seems likely that the main show will persist in its current form for quite some time. There’s potential for growth within the series, allowing for more in-depth exploration of characters and storylines. But for now, a spinoff isn’t on the horizon; it might become a reality at some point in the future though.
