Michael B. Jordan to Direct and Star in ‘Thomas Crown Affair’

As a seasoned gamer of both movies and life, I must say that the news of Michael B. Jordan directing and starring in “The Thomas Crown Affair” has me buzzing with excitement! Having grown up watching the original masterpiece starring Steve McQueen, I can’t help but feel like this is a dream come true.

Michael B. Jordan is preparing to take on his second directorial project following the success of “Creed III”. He will be both director and star in a new adaptation of “The Thomas Crown Affair” for Amazon MGM Studios, according to reports from The Hollywood Reporter.

Jordan is teaming up again with the studio behind “Creed III,” following the movie’s impressive global gross of $276.1 million. Jordan has been keen on playing the role in “Thomas Crown” for some time now, having initially expressed interest as an actor back in 2016. Not only will he star and direct the project, but he will also produce it through his production company, Outlier Society, together with Elizabeth Raposo. His banner has a first-look film deal and an overall TV deal already established with the studio.

Amazon MGM intends to give the film an exclusive, global run in movie theaters.

The series harks back to Norman Jewison’s 1968 original, featuring Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway in the lead roles. In this film, McQueen portrayed a prosperous businessman who moonlighted as a bank robber. When an insurance investigator, played by Dunaway, started pursuing him, they became involved romantically while he was plotting another robbery.

Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo starred in a 1999 remake.

Drew Pearce, known for his preference for genres, who recently brought The Fall Guy to the big screen this year, penned the script. Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson previously drafted a version of the script. Patrick McCormick and Marc Toberoff will also serve as producers, with Alan Trustman, the writer of the original film, receiving executive producer credit.

Up next, there’s an upcoming movie titled “Untitled Event Film” directed by Ryan Coogler, scheduled for release on March 7, 2025. Jordan is represented by WME, M88, and Johnson Shapiro.

Deadline first reported the news.
