Judd Apatow to Direct Coke-Pepsi Rivalry Movie ‘Cola Wars’ From Steven Spielberg and Sony

As a die-hard fan of cinematic brilliance, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing the news that Judd Apatow will be directing the upcoming Sony Pictures feature, “Cola Wars,” with the legendary Steven Spielberg producing! With a career spanning from the hilarious antics of “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” to the poignant drama of “Trainwreck,” Apatow’s touch is sure to bring a unique and engaging perspective to this tale of corporate rivalry.

The development of the film titled “Cola Wars” is gaining momentum, as it’s been reported that Judd Apatow will take on the director’s role and Steven Spielberg will produce, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be leading the charge on a project that’s just starting to take shape. The studio recently snapped up an idea for a film titled “Cola Wars” which promises to delve into the intense rivalry that erupted in the ’80s, when Pepsi decided to go head-to-head with Coke’s decades-long reign in the soft drink market. It’s going to be an exciting journey exploring this legendary battle for soda supremacy!

Jason Shuman and Ben Queen are currently developing the screenplay for “Cola Wars”. Steven Spielberg is serving as the producer for this project under his production house, Amblin Entertainment. Maia Eyre is supervising the movie’s production on behalf of Sony Pictures.

Shuman plays a key role in developing Apple TV+’s series “Acapulco” and holds an executive position in HBO’s show “Winning Time”. Queen garnered writing credits for the animated film “The Addams Family 2” as well as both follow-ups to “Cars”.

Apatow is recognized for having directed movies like “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” “Knocked Up,” “Funny People,” and “Trainwreck.” His latest directorial project was “The Bubble,” a 2022 Netflix comedy film that featured Karen Gillan, Pedro Pascal, Fred Armisen, Maria Bakalova, David Duchovny, and Keegan-Michael Key in the starring roles.

Lately, films focusing on corporate America have gained popularity. One such recent example is Amazon Studios’ 2023 production titled “Air“, featuring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck portraying members of the Nike team who negotiated Michael Jordan’s pioneering shoe contract.

Moreover, this year, the comedy film titled “Unfrosted” by Jerry Seinfeld made its debut on Netflix, focusing on the rivalry between the cereal titans, Post and Kellogg’s, as they clashed over the introduction of the Pop-Tart.

Deadline was first to report on Apatow and Spielberg joining Cola Wars.
