Amazon Kids+ ‘Dino Dex’ Kids Series to Get Toronto Film Fest Special Screening (Exclusive)

As a long-time fan of Sinking Ship Entertainment’s captivating and educational content, I am thrilled to learn about their latest creation, “Dino Dex.” Having grown up with the original “Dino Dan” series and its spin-offs, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia at the prospect of another adventure into the world of dinosaurs.

At the Toronto Film Festival, Sinking Ship Entertainment’s latest production in their live-action hybrid TV series, Dino Dex, will have a special preview screening for press and industry professionals, before Amazon Kids+ and Prime Video officially release the show on October 20, 2024.

On September 12th, the creator and director J.J. Johnson will engage in a post-screening question-and-answer session with members of the cast, featuring Juan Pablo Romero portraying Dex and Ana Victoria Dinapo as Kayla. This exclusive screening in Toronto is part of TIFF’s growing focus on TV series premieres through its Primetime section this year, and precedes TIFF’s planned introduction of an official content market in 2026.

The principal actors in this production are Michela Luci portraying Dana, Nicola Damude in the dual roles of Mom/Eva, Amish Patel as Dad/Aman, alongside Jason Spevack as Dan, Trek Buccino as Trek, Eric Peterson taking on multiple characters including Dex and Dana’s grandfather, Ali Hassan as Uncle Ravi, Jayne Eastwood as Ms. Currie, and Millie Davis in the role of Riley. Saara Chaudry reprises her character as Dex’s sister.

The show, known as Dino Dex, revolves around a 9-year-old named Dex, who is an artist, adventurer, and budding paleontologist. Similar to the original Dino Dan series and its spin-offs like Dino Dan: Trek’s Adventures and Dino Dana, Dex employs his Dino Field Guide for a magical ability to observe and investigate dinosaurs in our actual world.

In the newest show designed for children aged between 4 and 7, we find Dex embarking on his most magnificent dinosaur exploration yet. Accompanying him on this journey through time is his geology enthusiast neighbor, Kayla.

Based in Toronto, the renowned Canadian production company, Sinking Ship, is recognized for creating popular children’s series such as “This is Daniel Cook,” “This is Emily Yeung,” “Are We There Yet?: World Adventure,” and “Annedroids.
