Jennie Garth Opens Up About “Really Hard” IVF Journey, Reveals Double Hip Replacement Surgery

As a longtime fan of Jennie Garth and her journey through life, I must say that this recent interview has only deepened my admiration for her. Her courage to speak openly about her struggles with IVF, her hip replacement surgeries, and her resilience in the face of adversity is truly inspiring.

Jennie Garth recently disclosed that she had a hip replacement operation, and for the first time, she’s sharing her challenging journey with in vitro fertilization together with her spouse, Dave Abrams.

In a video chat accompanying her feature in Self magazine, the former star of Beverly Hills, 90210 discusses her journey with IVF before her split with Abrams in 2018. She shared that they had been undergoing IVF treatments to conceive and it was unsuccessful, which was a significant struggle for both of them personally and on their relationship.

Garth went on saying, “Once we chose not to pursue the possibility of having kids together, it allowed us to express our love for one another in a unique and new manner.

Garth has three children with ex-husband Peter Facinelli.

In the publication, Garth discusses extensively her experience with hip replacement surgery, stating that she endured significant discomfort for an extended period.

Though Garth said she initially tried to ignore the signs that something was wrong with her hips, figuring it was caused by years of horseback riding and dancing in her youth, the complications got “progressively worse,” becoming “so painful at one point that [she] couldn’t even go on a walk with [her] dogs.”

Initially, it was discovered that she had osteoarthritis affecting her thumbs, knees, and hips. As time passed and she reached 48 years old, she began to notice a significant decrease in her quality of life due to intense pain. This is when she decided to consult a new doctor who identified an issue with her left hip joint not fitting properly in its socket, and the nearby tissues were deteriorating. He proposed undergoing hip replacement surgery. Eager to restore normalcy, the actress requested from her doctor the earliest available appointment slot.

Although her hip replacement surgery had to be delayed due to the peak of the pandemic, it eventually took place. After the operation, Garth swiftly resumed activities she hadn’t engaged in for years, like household chores. “In the years following that surgery, I felt like a modern-day Bionic Woman—I felt unstoppable,” she stated.

After the actress described her situation, she mentioned that while her physicians believed her left hip was in a more damaged state compared to her right one, leading to surgery on the former side, this year she started experiencing pain in her right hip. “Upon examination,” she continued, “they discovered it had mysteriously deteriorated beyond what my left hip had ever been. The pain I felt with each step was indescribable – I couldn’t even kneel or rise from the ground. Considering the remarkable performance of my recently replaced hip, I realized immediately that a second surgery on the other joint was necessary.

She mentioned that her second operation in March went smoothly, however, healing took considerably more time.
