What We Loved at New York Fashion Week

As a fashion enthusiast with a keen eye for emerging trends and designers, I must say that this season’s New York Fashion Week has been nothing short of extraordinary. The collections showcased by Off-White™, SP5DER, and Luar have truly left an indelible mark on the fashion landscape.

The New York Fashion Week has wrapped up, and it seems your social media feeds are filling up with pictures from various parts of the city: At Rockefeller Center, Madonna and Ice Spice drew attention to Luar’s Spring 2025 presentation; downtown, at the Marble Cemetery, the Green Lady of Brooklyn lifted iPhones for her runway debut alongside Collina Strada; in Brooklyn, Ib Kamara’s Off-White™ held its first New York show on a basketball court, and at Harlem’s Apollo Theater, Colm Dillane’s KidSuper put on a full comedy performance.

Simply put, New York Fashion Week was far from tranquil. Amidst the frenzy that ruled the American fashion hub this past week, these are our favorite highlights.

The Green Lady of Brooklyn Making Her NYFW Debut

What We Loved at New York Fashion Week

At New York Fashion Week, there were many celebrity appearances, but The Green Lady of Brooklyn’s walk on the runway at Collina Strada’s “Touch Grass” show could be the most memorable. Known as a local legend since the 1990s, the Green Lady carried her Iguana bag and wore her signature all-green outfit from the Spring/Summer 2025 collection while strutting down Collina Strada’s Marble Cemetery runway.

Making her runway debut, The Green Lady added an eco-friendly touch to the show with her appearance, reinforcing the event’s ecological theme as she casually walked along the runway wearing a green oxford shirt, roomy trousers with pockets, and a hoodie draped around her waist. The tune “I’m going to be tending my vegetables, I’m going to eat my vegetables” played in the background.

Wu-Tang’s Surprise Performance at Tommy Hilfiger

What We Loved at New York Fashion Week

Tommy Hilfiger’s Spring 2025 fashion event was a glamorous tribute to New York City, with Wu-Tang Clan members joining the celebration. After the runway presentation ended, Ghostface Killah, Method Man, and Raekwon unexpectedly performed on stage, hosted by Questlove. This performance drew a large crowd of showgoers and many phones recording in the air.

In a conversation with DAZED, Ghostface shared, “Tommy’s reputation is undeniable. When you look at our early work, that was the brand we were promoting, the style we wore. He was one of the most influential fashion brands, and I remember running wild in this massive warehouse wearing his clothes. Listen to our old tracks, and you’ll hear us shouting out his name repeatedly. There are so many songs dedicated to him.

In the 80s and early 90s, his name was synonymous with the streets. Wearing Hilfiger signified something special. That’s how fashion was back then. So it’s quite an honor today to be here, right at the source of where it all began. It’s legendary. When I received the call, I was like “You bet, I’m coming to make a splash.

Who Decides War Lacing Up With Jordan Brand

What We Loved at New York Fashion Week

At the Who Decides War exhibition, it was the Jordan Brand footwear that left a significant impression, particularly the several Jordan silhouettes that strutted confidently along the runway. Models displayed four distinct collaborative models from Jordan Brand during the show, hinting at a prolonged alliance between Who Decides War and Jordan Brand in the future.

As a die-hard fan, I was thrilled to see three exciting new Jordan Flight Court models unveiled during the recent showcase. Among them were the “Black/Grey/Red” and “Coconut Milk” colorways that have me eagerly awaiting their release for purchase!

Somewhere else, War craft by Jordan was customized to create a unique Jordan 1 High for the Spring/Summer 2025 collection inspired by Victorian aesthetics. Consistent with the rest of the lineup, this sneaker features bold blue accents and intricate lacework. Keep an eye out for future projects from these creators.

Willy Chavarria’s adidas Collaboration

On Friday along Wall Street, Willy Chavarria was one of the final performances on the opening night of New York Fashion Week. His show, kicked off by a heartfelt performance from Yahritza Y Su Esencia, was divided into two segments: the initial section focused on Chavarria’s classic workwear styles, reimagined sportswear, and dramatic folds, while the second half, marked by alarming red spotlights, showcased his fresh adidas collaboration.

This 22-item assortment featured quarter-zip jackets, athletic jerseys, artistic tops, lightweight shorts, and additional items bearing the iconic Three Stripes. The warm-up jerseys, available in red and black, showcased two adidas logos below the neckline. Sleeveless garments inspired by football design honored the basketball MVP Kareem Abdul Jabbar’s number “33,” and shorts bore the name “Chavarria” along the thigh. As the finale, Olympic track and field sprinter Noah Lyles strutted his stuff on the runway, sporting merely a pair of short-shorts from the collaboration.

Checked Baggage

What We Loved at New York Fashion Week

At New York Fashion Week (NYFW), it seemed like everyone was carrying oversized bags – these designs are so striking that they’re worth taking a closer look at for sure! The silhouettes on display were all about going big, as seen in numerous shows this season such as Palomo Spain, Coach, Luar, and Tombogo.

At Coach, designer Stuart Vevers matched his Gen Z-inspired clothing with eye-catching leather accessories such as oversized backpacks and handbags shaped like hearts, stars, lips, and dinosaurs, all embellished with Coach Frame hardware. Palomo Spain, on the other hand, collaborated with Bimba Y Lola to display an array of extra-large luggage in black and white hues, while Tombogo added practical pocketed purses to enhance its functional ready-to-wear lineup. Luar concluded the day’s shows by presenting larger leather clutches than typical.

Kim Shui’s Debut Menswear

It’s no surprise that TopMob had an excellent view during Kim Shui’s Spring 2025 menswear runway show on Saturday night. This was the first time she unveiled her creations in this category, and she did so with an understated coolness.

For the first time in this category, Shui created menswear using corsets with a loose fit that were fastened around the torso using thin leather straps. This design technique was also applied to the legs of masculine leather pants, which had a soft, scaly texture reminiscent of reptiles. Model Jake Fleming showcased a similar style, featuring silver zippers branded with a “K” logo that ran from waist to ankle instead of the leather straps. The top he wore was a form-fitting corset in shades of brown and yellow, adorned with regal drapery on the shoulders, which seems to be designed for the androgynous customer Shui appears to be aiming at.

Thom Browne’s Dapper Downtown Dinner

What We Loved at New York Fashion Week

This past week, celebrities such as Teyana Taylor, Martha Stewart, Justin Theroux, and Leon Bridges gathered at The Commerce Inn’s iconic entrances for dinner with Thom Browne. Hosted by Cole Escola from the show “Oh, Mary!”, who was making his Broadway debut and inspired this event, it was not just a glamorous gathering of stars; it also served as an unveiling of sorts for Thom Browne’s Spring 2025 collection, giving guests a sneak peek at the CFDA chairman’s upcoming designs.

Browne shared with TopMob that although he showcased his runway collection in Paris during couture, he still desired to honor New York Fashion Week. He wanted to reunite with his team, friends, and family for the Spring 2025 collection presentation. He felt there was no better setting or people to accomplish this with. Browne’s ideal gathering also featured Addison Rae, Alessandro Nivola, Alton Mason, Ella Emhoff, Eva Chen, Ian Bradley, Ib Kamara, Issa Rae, Jordan Roth, King Princess, Lola Tung, and Patti Lupone – all of whom posed for collection portraits by photographer Joshua Woods before the meal (and these images could potentially serve as the collection’s lookbook).

Off-White™’s Distorted Denim

On a Sunday afternoon, Off-White™, created by Virgil Abloh, changed Pier 2 at Brooklyn Bridge Park into a large-scale basketball court for its inaugural New York Fashion Week show. The show, called “DUTY FREE,” featured the Spring/Summer 2025 collection that showcased sportswear-inspired designs as they moved, leaped, and dunked through the venue. This collection represented a blend of American and African influences.

Notable among the designs was creative director Ib Kamara’s distinctive shredded denim, sporting bold teal and red hues. The torn fabric adorned vests and pants with functional zip pouches, creating a utilitarian yet elegant look due to its tied appearance. Simultaneously, the designer maintained a utilitarian theme under Off-White™, adding removable pouches and pockets to his attention-grabbing tops and trousers using zippers. By skillfully combining various fashion styles, the designer aimed for a three-point shot – from our viewpoint, he certainly made the basket.

SP5DER Casting a Wider Web

What We Loved at New York Fashion Week

Without a doubt, the inaugural SP5DER New York Fashion Week display would have resonated strongly with Young Thug. Renowned for its urban fashion aesthetics, particularly the eye-catching sweatsuits, Atlanta-based Sp5der truly shone during its five-year anniversary event, reaching more people than ever before in its Fall/Winter 2024 collection titled “Nocturnal Highway.

At Spring Studios’ show, Kyle Kuzma, Alton Mason, Anwar Hadid, SadBoi were among the attendees, with Mariah the Scientist bringing the event to a memorable close. Sp5der demonstrated that it offers more than just bedazzled loungewear and graphics by blending its distinctive styles with advanced fabrics and textiles. Highlighting pieces included patterned denim garments, cowhide coats, and hoodies lined with fur.

With a “view now, shop now” method, everything displayed during the fashion show can be immediately purchased. Check out the complete collection here.

Luar’s Yahaira Bag

What We Loved at New York Fashion Week

At Rockefeller Center during New York Fashion Week’s Spring 2025 event on Tuesday night, the Luar show stood out as one of the week’s most awe-inspiring events, with Madonna and Ice Spice in the audience, Offset strutting down the runway, and countless large metallic Ana bags scattered about.

Entitled “En Boca Quedó,” the collection exuded confidence, particularly the newly introduced hero piece, the Jahaira bag, which strutted with impact. Named after the designer’s drag persona, this new must-have accessory is a refined version of the beloved Ana bag, featuring a more structured design and shorter handles. Keep an eye out for this stylish companion gracing New York streets starting next spring.
