Watch Lando Norris Drive a McLaren P1 Made Entirely Out of LEGOs

As a seasoned gamer and automotive enthusiast with a soft spot for both LEGO and McLaren, I must say this collaboration left me absolutely spellbound! The sheer audacity and ingenuity behind creating a life-size LEGO replica of the legendary McLaren P1 is nothing short of mind-boggling.

LEGO and McLaren have teamed up for an extraordinary, innovative partnership: a McLaren P1 crafted entirely from LEGO bricks. The aim of this collaboration was to explore the performance potential of LEGO pieces on the racetrack. Given that a McLaren P1 is already a formidable machine, how would its LEGO counterpart fare under high-speed testing?

The car comes out of LEGO Technic, a division of the brand focusing on buildable cars with functioning wheels, axles and gearboxes. The LEGO McLaren P1 is the exact same size as the real car and was constructed out of 342,817 individual LEGOs, weighing 2689 lb (1,220 kg). 23 specialists from both brands with expertise in design, engineering and building teamed up, putting in a cumulative 8,344 hours of development.

For the demo, the brands tapped star racecar driver Lando Norris to put the car to the test with a lap around Silverstone. The car’s electric motor proved capable of rounding the track’s corners to successfully complete the lap.
