Justin Timberlake Makes Statement After Pleading Guilty in DWI Case

As a long-time fan of Justin Timberlake and his exceptional talent, I have always admired him for his professionalism and humility. After following his career closely for years, it was disheartening to see him make a mistake that could potentially damage his reputation. However, after reading about his recent court appearance and hearing his words, I must say I am proud of the way he handled the situation.

Justin Timberlake has agreed to a plea bargain, acknowledging his impaired driving, as a way to avoid a more serious DWI charge. After the hearing, the actor and singer expressed gratitude that the case was coming to an end. The incident leading to this charge took place on June 18 in Sag Harbor, NY, where Timberlake was arrested for driving under the influence. During his tour, he was stopped for running a stop sign and driving on the wrong side of the road. The police report (via PEOPLE) stated that Timberlake performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests.

On Friday, September 13, the actor from both “The Social Network” and “Trolls”, Justin Timberlake, stood with his lawyer, Edward Burke Jr., at the Sag Harbor courthouse, before Judge Carl Irace. Timberlake admitted to Judge Irace that he felt “disappointed” for not meeting the standards he set for himself. He also thanked everyone involved in the situation. The judge inquired about a question that had been widely asked on social media since Timberlake’s arrest: “Why did he decide to drive when convenient transportation alternatives were at hand?”

Timberlake acknowledged that he was in a predicament requiring immediate reflection, regretting his lack of foresight, and he recognized the gravity of the situation he had unwittingly entered.

In accordance with Timberlake’s agreement, he is obligated to produce a public announcement advocating against driving under the influence, pay a combined penalty of $760, carry out 25 hours of volunteer work at a non-profit organization of his choice, and face a license suspension for a duration of 90 days.

After our court appearance, I, along with Timberlake, addressed the media. In light of the events leading up to our arrest, Burke felt compelled to address any misconceptions. He emphasized that evidence presented showed Timberlake had consumed only a single drink over a two-hour period prior to his apprehension. He further added:

Contrary to some rumors, he didn’t drink anyone else’s drinks and had no prior warning against driving. He wasn’t impolite, boorish, or aggressive. Instead, he behaved in a courteous, helpful, and respectful manner throughout his interaction with the authorities.

Justin Timberlake reiterated the lofty benchmark he sets for himself and admitted falling short of this ideal. In his own words:

It wasn’t as expected. In a situation where I had the opportunity to choose differently, I’ve had some time to ponder over it, and I realize… we both possess a common stage or medium for expression.

He urged anyone listening not to drive even if they only had one drink, acknowledging that his mistake was not seeking alternative transportation. Timberlake concluded by thanking everyone involved in the case:

I’d like to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has been a part of this, from those in the courtroom to those outside, including the police department. In conclusion, I believe we can all be safer if we work together. I pledge to do my share and I hope others will too. Thank you very much.

Currently, Justin Timberlake is touring globally as part of his “Forget Tomorrow World Tour,” which runs until June 2025. Despite some legal issues, this tour, according to Billboard, is expected to rank among the top 10 year-end tours list.
