Berlin actor Aparshakti Khurana recalls he was asked to touch brother Ayushmann's feet every morning when he was a child; here's why

As a dedicated follower of the captivating journey of Aparshakti Khurana, I find his story to be a heartwarming testament to the power of sibling bonds and the profound impact of family values. The tradition of touching his brother Ayushmann’s feet, though seemingly unconventional, has played an instrumental role in shaping their unique relationship, reminiscent of the old-school Ram-Lakshman kind.

Actor Aparshakti Khurana, fresh from the triumph of Amar Kaushik’s film Stree 2, speaks fondly about his relationship with his brother, fellow actor Ayushmann Khurrana. Recently, Aparshakti attended the special screening for his latest release Berlin, where many celebrities were present, including his sibling Ayushmann. At this event, Aparshakti humbly sought Ayushmann’s blessings, a moment captured in a widely shared video. Now, in an interview about his role in Berlin, Aparshakti discusses the reason behind being asked to touch Ayushmann’s feet every morning as a child.

In a recent podcast on YouTube’s Digital Commentary, Aparshakti Khurana opened up about the special relationship he shares with his brother Ayushmann Khurrana and how their tradition of showing respect by touching each other’s feet originated. Reflecting on memories from their past, Aparshakti recalled that their late father, P Khurana, encouraged him to address Ayushmann as “bhaiya” as a sign of respect, but he never did so.

Speaking about an incident with Ayushmann, Aparshakti revealed that as a young boy of about 8 or 9, he had used some strong language towards him. This action earned him many harsh punishments during his childhood years, as depicted by the actor in Stree 2.

Aparshakti recounted being faced with a tough choice: either greet Ayushmann daily by touching his feet as addressed (“From this day on, you will address him as ‘bhaiya’ and every morning you must touch his feet”), or leave the household.

Reflecting on his past, the 36-year-old actor discussed how he struggled to show respect towards his elder brother Ayushmann during his younger years. It wasn’t until Aparshakti began showing reverence by touching his brother’s feet that he understood there was less room for arguments or disputes between them. He characterized their bond as reminiscent of Ram and Lakshman, an old-fashioned sibling connection. The Stree actor also shared that the Khurana brothers experienced a typical middle-class upbringing, which they believe has played a significant role in fostering their close relationship.

Regarding the viral video, it depicted Aparshakti Khurana and his wife Akriti Khurana walking the red carpet together. Upon arrival, they greeted Aparshakti’s brother Ayushmann Khurrana and sister-in-law Tahira Kashyap. Aparshakti paid respects to Ayushmann by touching his feet and embraced Tahira. In a similar fashion, Akriti also showed her affection by bending down to touch Tahira’s feet and hugging Ayushmann.

Besides Rahul Bose, Kabir Bedi, and other talented actors, the film “Berlin” made its debut on the streaming platform ZEE5 on the 13th of September, 2024.
