Emmys: ‘The Daily Show’ Wins Best Talk Series for Second Straight Year

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the world of late-night talk shows and comedy, I can confidently say that The Daily Show has been a staple in my virtual living room for years. Having grown up during Jon Stewart’s initial run as host, I witnessed firsthand the brilliance of his satirical commentary on current events. So, when Trevor Noah took over, I was hesitant but quickly found myself hooked once again.

At the 2024 Emmy Awards held on Sunday, “The Daily Show” was crowned the best talk show series for the second consecutive year.

In 2023, The Emmys awarded “The Daily Show” for Trevor Noah’s final season as host – marking the first time since Jon Stewart stopped being a full-time host in 2015 that the show won. Now, Stewart has returned as a part-time host of this longstanding Comedy Central program; his previous series, “The Problem With Jon Stewart” on Apple TV+, was also nominated last year.

Stewart expressed his delight in collaborating with such a gifted team, stating that it significantly enhances his Mondays. He also acknowledged his fellow hosts Ronny Chieng, Michael Kosta, Desi Lydic, Jordan Klepper (who he praised as exceptionally competent), and showrunner Jen Flanz, who has been associated with The Daily Show since 1998 and serves as an executive producer for the last fifteen years.

“I love our show and the people we work with, and I love working in television,” Flanz said.

For a significant portion of Jon Stewart’s tenure as host, The Daily Show dominated the variety category, taking home the award for best variety, music or comedy series (which was a precursor to the current category) in 11 out of 13 years between 2003 and 2015. This year, it has been awarded two Emmys, increasing its total number of wins to an impressive 28.

Apart from Jimmy Kimmel Live, Late Night With Seth Meyers, and The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, other nominees for the best talk series were in contention this time around. It’s been nearly two decades since a broadcast show last received an award in this category (or its previous iterations), which was back in 2002.

This year’s Emmy Awards, jointly hosted by Eugene and Dan Levy, took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and was aired live. Don’t miss out on the stunning red carpet entrances!
