As a long-time watch enthusiast with a soft spot for Japanese craftsmanship and design, I must say that Citizen’s grand opening of their flagship store on 605 Fifth Avenue has left me utterly spellbound! The immersive installation by Tsuyoshi Tane, the LIGHT is TIME exhibit, is a mesmerizing ode to the brand’s rich history and commitment to sustainability.

A resident has unveiled a new flagship location for their brand on 605 Fifth Avenue, right in the heart of New York City’s premier shopping district. Standing over three stories high and spanning 7,000 square feet, the Citizen Flagship Store New York is a magnificent representation of the watchmaker’s pioneering and intelligent design philosophy. This architectural marvel has been brought to life by renowned architect Ken Park and his esteemed New York-based firm, Kenneth Park Architects. The store’s grand opening aligns with Citizen’s centennial celebration, as the Japanese watchmaker commemorates its enduring influence on fashion and culture through a captivating collaboration with Paris-based Japanese architect Tsuyoshi Tane from ATTA – Atelier Tsuyoshi Tane Architects.

1970 saw Citizen mark a milestone in watchmaking by introducing titanium with their X-8 Chronometer launch. Artist Tsuyoshi Tane’s captivating work features countless Citizen watch baseplates, symbolizing the enduring flow of time and acknowledging this groundbreaking event, as well as hinting at the brand’s eco-friendly Eco-Drive technology that harnesses light for power. Watch enthusiasts have the opportunity to appreciate the LIGHT is TIME installation in Citizen’s showroom while perusing their renowned product collections.

As a gamer, I’m always on the lookout for the latest gear that combines style and functionality, and the Zenshin Collection certainly ticks those boxes! This collection, showcased in the store, includes the Zenshin Three-Hand and Zenshin Chrono, both equipped with Citizen Eco-Drive technology, and the Zenshin Mechanical. What sets these watches apart is their construction from Super Titanium™, a tough, scratch-resistant material that’s five times harder and forty percent lighter than stainless steel. This means they feel robust yet lightweight on my wrist.

A textured, luminescent finish on the dial accentuates the series’ metallic color stories, available in light blue, white and salmon for the Zenshin Chrono. Highlights of the Chrono include an outer tachymetric scale accompanied by three subdials. The Three-Hand, by contrast, houses date and day displays at 3 o’clock, offered in white, green or blue, while the Mechanical features a date window, positioned at 3 o’clock, and an off-center subdial indicating the running time, available in white, blue and light blue.
