Anand Tiwari talks about the underperformance of Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri and Ammy Virk starrer Bad Newz; ‘I never expected...'

As a seasoned lifestyle expert with years of immersion in the dynamic world of cinema, I must say that Bad Newz, despite its underwhelming box office performance, showcases the raw passion and creativity that drives filmmakers like Anand Tiwari. His candid admission about not expecting numbers reflects a refreshing honesty often lost amidst the relentless pursuit of commercial success.

Earlier this July, the movie “Bad Newz,” featuring Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri, and Ammy Virk, hit the big screens. Directed by Anand Tiwari, it garnered significant attention due to popular tracks like “Tauba Tauba” and “Mere Mehboob Mere Sanam.” However, it didn’t fare well in terms of box office earnings. In response, the director stated that he never anticipated high numbers for the film.

During a chat with India Today, Bad Newz director Anand Tiwari was asked about the lower-than-expected performance of the film starring Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri, and Ammy Virk. In response, the director stated, “I didn’t anticipate any specific numbers. I don’t possess the inclination to participate in this number game. There are others more skilled than me who can handle such matters.

The director shared that their primary intention was for the viewers to appreciate the movie since it was crafted with sincere affection. They were delighted by the overwhelming response and observing the audience connect with the music, dance routines, and humor.

Beyond what was already mentioned, the director elaborated on how people engage more deeply with content on Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms. In his opinion, these services blend the shared experience of going to the cinema with the individual viewing experience of television. He also noted that digital platforms have democratized content consumption, making it available to everyone.

Tiwari went on to share his joy about being pioneers by airing their series such as Band Bajaa Baraat, Love Per Square Foot, and Maja Maa digitally. He acknowledged gaining valuable insights throughout this transition, adding that despite changes, the desire for quality content remains unwavering. The director emphasized this point.

Even though Tiwari has delivered successful projects previously, he clarified that these projects don’t guarantee automatic approval in the future. Instead, he emphasized that what truly matters is having high-quality content. He also suggested the importance of creating a niche or space within the project ecosystem to increase chances of success.

At times, it can become overwhelming with the number of action-packed projects or family dramas flooding the market. To stand out, it’s crucial to ensure your content offers a fresh, distinctive take on things.

Approximately three weeks ago, the movie began streaming on Amazon Prime Video, but it was only available for rental. However, recently, the producers have surprised fans by announcing that the film can now be watched at no cost. This exciting news was posted on September 13, 2024, with the caption “Bad Newz is now live on Prime Video.

The movie ‘Bad Newz’ is actually the sequel to the comedy film ‘Good Newwz’, which came out in 2019. In the original, Akshay Kumar, Diljit Dosanjh, Kiara Advani, and Kareena Kapoor were the main stars.

Approximately five years after its release, creators introduced the sequel that explored an unusual event – heteropaternal superfecundation. This term refers to a scenario where a woman becomes pregnant simultaneously by two distinct men.

Under the guidance of Anand Tiwari, the script for this movie was crafted by Ishita Moitra and Tarun Dudeja. Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Amritpal Singh Bindra, and Anand Tiwari are responsible for its production. Notable performances can be seen from Neha Dhupia and Sheeba Chadha, while there are special appearances by Ananya Panday and Neha Sharma.
