Is Kareena Kapoor's The Buckingham Murders eyeing a prequel? Director Hansal Mehta drops MAJOR hint, ‘I already have…’

As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for cinematic trends and a deep appreciation for the art of storytelling, I must say that the recent release of The Buckingham Murders, starring the brilliant Kareena Kapoor, has been a breath of fresh air in the otherwise monotonous landscape of Bollywood. Directed by the visionary Hansal Mehta, this mystery thriller has left audiences spellbound with its gripping plot and impeccable performances.

Earlier this week saw the release of The Buckingham Murders, starring Kareena Kapoor and directed by Hansal Mehta. Audience and creators alike are enjoying the mystery-thriller’s premiere, but the seasoned filmmaker has hinted at a possible sequel. In fact, he has a prequel concept in mind for potential return.

As I chat with Hansal Mehta during our Midday interview, he’s asked about the possibility of a sequel to The Buckingham Murders, starring the magnificent Kareena Kapoor. With a sparkle in his eyes, he shares that the positive response to TBM has him considering another collaboration. He hinted at a prequel for Jasmeet, delving into her origins and revealing how she transformed into the character we all know today. I can hardly wait!

The director was asked if their potential collaboration would mean a reunion of himself, Bebo, and Ektaa R Kapoor. “Absolutely, they hold the intellectual property rights,” he responded. Furthermore, the director also shared his desire to work with the actor-producer duo once more. In his opinion, working on the intense thriller was an extremely rewarding experience for him with them.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase it like this: In my experience, one might assume persuading Kareena for the film would be challenging. Yet, I was fortunate enough to have Ektaa introduce me to the actress. Upon reading the film’s synopsis, she enthusiastically agreed to join the project. It was truly a pleasure working with her, an absolute delight.

Throughout the discussion, the filmmaker praised “intuitively talented” Kareena Kapoor. He noted that she doesn’t overly value her acting skills. He added that her performance is graceful because of this casual approach. Mehta expressed his opinion, suggesting that although the role was intricate, she executed it with delicacy.

The film “Buckingham Murders” is produced using a mix of Hindi and English (Hinglish). This decision was a bold move by the creators, as they chose to stay true to the UK setting of the story, even if it potentially alienated some viewers. Director Mehta explained this choice, stating, “The original script penned by Aseem Arora was set in the UK. I felt that if the story is based there, it must accurately reflect its environment.

Frequently, films in Hindi are produced in the UK with characters who speak only in Hindi. This seems contrived to me, as I desire an authentic experience. Luckily, Ektaa shared my sentiment.

During a recent conversation with Zoom, Mehta addressing sky-high fees of some A-listers opined that it depends on the film. The 56-year-old further cited the example of Kareena who is also a producer on the film took a cut in her fees. “She has also put her belief in something that she wanted to do by subsidizing her fees and by becoming part of The Buckingham Murders even as a producer,” the director shared.

In a different yet straightforward way: An investigative thriller follows Kareena’s character, Jasmeet Bhamra, who has moved to a new town to leave behind painful memories of her son’s tragic death. When assigned the case of a missing boy, she delves into the mystery, making for a chilling and suspenseful journey.

Under the guidance of director Hansal Mehta, the film titled “The Buckingham Murders” features Kareena Kapoor as the lead, alongside Allen Keith, Ash Tandon, and Ranveer Brar in pivotal positions within the cast.

This movie, penned by Aseem Arrora, Kashyap Kapoor, and Raghav Raj Kakker, is being produced by Balaji Telefilms and TBM Films, with Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, and Kareena Kapoor Khan as investors. At the moment, you can catch it in cinemas close to you!
