Renault Introduces the Estafette: an EV Van Designed for Urban Environments

As a seasoned city-dwelling gamer, I’ve navigated through countless digital landscapes and urban jungles alike. The real world, however, has its own set of challenges that even the most advanced gaming consoles can’t simulate – traffic, parking, and the relentless pursuit of the perfect pizza delivery time. That’s why the Renault Estafette Concept has piqued my interest.

Renault has unveiled the Estafette Concept, a groundbreaking all-electric van tailored to cater to contemporary urban professionals’ demands. This vehicle embodies Renault’s aspirations for utility vehicles in the future, focusing on “last-mile” logistics within increasingly crowded and regulated city settings.

Drawing inspiration from the legendary 1959 Estafette, the new design harmoniously marries functionality, quickness, and novelty. It is small yet roomy, merging the size of the Kangoo L2 with the cargo space of the Trafic L1H2, all while maintaining the nimbleness of a Clio. Engineered together with professional drivers in mind, it aims to optimize tasks, boost safety, and elevate productivity overall.

One of the distinctive aspects of the Estafette Concept lies in its adoption of the FlexEVan platform, a collaboration product between Renault’s innovative venture, Flexis, alongside Volvo and CMA CGM Group. This platform incorporates Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) technology, allowing for immediate updates and proactive maintenance, potentially reducing operating costs by as much as 30 percent.

In approximately two years, we anticipate the rollout of the Estafette Concept into full-scale manufacturing. At this point in time, the cost and specific regions where it will be accessible have not been disclosed.
