As a cinephile with a penchant for delving into the darker recesses of humanity through cinema, I can hardly contain my excitement at the prospect of Charlie Hunnam portraying one of America’s most notorious serial killers, Ed Gein, in Ryan Murphy’s upcoming series, Monster. Having grown up watching Hunnam’s riveting performance as Jax Teller in Sons of Anarchy, I can only imagine the chilling depths he will plumb to bring this twisted character to life.

Ryan Murphy, known for producing popular series like ‘American Horror Story’ and ‘American Crime Story’, has left fans excited with fresh insights about the third season of his another successful show, ‘Monster’. At a red-carpet event for Netflix’s ‘Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story’, Murphy announced (as reported by Deadline) that the upcoming Season 3 will focus on the notorious serial killer Ed Gein. Interestingly, the role of Gein is set to be played by the star from ‘Sons of Anarchy’.

For now, he’s keeping more specific information under wraps, but the prospect of Hunnam portraying the Butcher of Plainfield is definitely captivating. Most recognized for his role as Jackson ‘Jax’ Teller in the hit FX series Sons of Anarchy, Hunnam has also appeared in movies such as Pacific Rim, The Gentlemen, and Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon series. Taking on a ruthless serial killer character is a shift for the actor, and it’s sure to draw plenty of viewers eager to see this retelling of one of America’s most infamous serial killers’ story.

Similar to how Season 1 focused on the life of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, Season 3 will delve into the crimes committed by Ed Gein, a man who earned his nicknames ‘Butcher of Plainfield’ and ‘Plainfield Ghoul’. Hailing from Plainfield, Wisconsin, he became infamous in 1957 when it was uncovered that he had desecrated local gravesites to create household items and garments using the bodies. He later admitted to murdering two women, Mary Hogan in 1954 and Bernice Worden in 1957, and is suspected of having killed at least seven more victims. This man’s story was the basis for the horror classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Currently, there’s no word yet on which actors will join the cast for Season 3 of Monster, nor is there information available about the writers and directors who will be working on it.
