The Buckingham Murders: When hype around Kareena Kapoor got ‘fever’ for co-star Ranveer Brar; latter reveals iconic slap scene took 15 takes

As a seasoned observer of the entertainment industry and having had the privilege to work with some of the biggest names, I must say that my experience working alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan on “The Buckingham Murders” was nothing short of extraordinary.

Previously a renowned chef, actor Ranveer Brar is currently receiving accolades for his role in Hansal Mehta’s The Buckingham Murders. In an interview with India Today Digital, Brar expressed his admiration for the film’s leading lady, Kareena Kapoor Khan. He also shared that the climactic slap scene, which took 15 takes to perfect, saw Kapoor Khan not actually landing a single hit on him.

Runveer Brar, who portrayed Daljeet Kohli, revealed, “At first, Kareena resisted hitting me; she repeatedly said, ‘I won’t hit you’ (I will not strike you). Despite her hands often being near my nose without making contact, I am not accustomed to responding without being struck. Consequently, we needed approximately 15 takes for that scene. Yet, it’s important to mention that Kareena never made physical contact with me even once.

46-year-old actor had his first appearance in Modern Love Mumbai alongside Pratik Gandhi and shared that it was simpler to work with him because they were of the same age. However, he admitted feeling slightly intimidated working with Ranveer and Kareena Kapoor. Brar also mentioned, “Working with Pratik was effortless, but the anticipation surrounding Kareena made me anxious; I even came down with a fever.

In my own words, I shared that Kareena Kapoor Khan chose to stay during my close-ups on our first day of filming, although someone else could have done so. This simple act made me feel at ease and humbled me greatly. As a newcomer, her presence eased my initial apprehensions, making the entire experience more comfortable for me. Moreover, it’s noteworthy that artists from film families typically hold a deep reverence for the script and story.

The Chef found Kareena deeply dedicated not just to her character in the film, but to the overall storyline as well. For those unfamiliar, Kapoor has also produced “The Buckingham Murders” and “Brar” noted that even when she concentrated solely on her role, she never lost sight of the importance of the plot. In his opinion, he holds Kareena in high esteem after collaborating with her.

Reflecting on my time involved in the Buckingham Murders project as a budding filmmaker, I must say it was nothing short of extraordinary. Under the tutelage of Hansal sir, I had the opportunity to absorb an immense amount of knowledge. Working alongside him felt like returning to the hallowed halls of a school, where I could learn, grow and excel.
