Brad Pitt's World War Z Gets a New Home on Streaming

As someone who has braved countless horror films and survived to tell the tale, I can confidently say that World War Z is a thrilling addition to the zombie genre, now available for streaming on Paramount+. The film’s fast-paced, heart-stopping action and the most terrifying zombies in cinema history, thanks to Brad Pitt’s gripping portrayal of Gerry Lane, make it an unmissable experience for any horror enthusiast.

You can now stream the most terrifying zombies ever seen on the big screen, as World War Z, starring Brad Pitt, is now streaming on Paramount+. In this movie, Gerry Lee, a former United Nations employee portrayed by Pitt, travels across the globe in an attempt to survive against relentless zombie hordes and discover a cure. Directed by Marc Forster, World War Z features a talented cast including Mireille Enos, Daniella Kertesz, James Badge Dale, Matthew Fox, Fana Mokoena, and David Morse.

2013 saw the theatrical release of the action/horror film World War Z, which earned respectable reviews. The movie, known for its high-octane action and chilling horror elements, boasts a 67% critics score and an even stronger 72% audience rating. Notably, it’s one of the few films where Brad Pitt takes center stage without other top-tier actors alongside him. World War Z is particularly famous for its terrifying zombies, considered by many to be the scariest ever seen on screen. Unlike their counterparts in movies like Land of the Dead and the Return of the Living Dead series, these zombies aren’t intelligent or flesh-rending. Instead, they’re exceptionally fast, moving with incredible speed akin to Usain Bolt. These undead terrors are not worth trying to outrun; they sprint after their prey like Usain Bolt, even climbing over each other in their relentless pursuit of humans, spreading their virus rapidly.

The film World War Z deviates significantly from Max Brooks’ 2006 novel, with the movie being more of an action-packed blockbuster, while the book is written as a journalistic account, featuring interviews with people who have experienced mysterious events leading up to the outbreak. Despite its enjoyability, many fans of Brooks’ work are still eager for a future adaptation that more accurately reflects the original novel, similar to District 9’s authentic portrayal.

Apart from earning positive feedback, “World War Z” proved to be a blockbuster hit at the box office, raking in $540 million against a budget of $190 million. Notably, it remains the highest-grossing zombie movie ever made. Although the post-apocalyptic zombie genre peaked during the 2000s and early 2010s, recent successes like “The Last of Us” and “Fallout” have rekindled interest in this genre. Given this resurgence, it could be an opportune moment to consider a sequel.

There have been whispers about the possible sequel of World War Z since its initial release, with Brad Pitt expressing his willingness to participate in more zombie-chasing adventures. At one time, David Fincher from Fight Club fame was chosen to lead the project. Nonetheless, reports about why the sequel was scrapped differ.

The popular belief is that Fincher’s proposed budget for the movie was significantly higher than what Paramount was prepared to spend, leading to the project being put on hold in order for Paramount to instead invest more in Mission: Impossible films. However, alternative theories propose that the film was delayed because China had imposed a ban on supernatural movies, which is also why films like Zombieland and Get Out never reached Chinese audiences. It’s important to note that China is the largest overseas box office market, aside from the U.S.
