For Stagnaro, this specific comic has been a part of his life since he turned 10 years old, and he’s drawing upon his childhood memories of reading it for the first time while adapting it. In conversation with Netflix, he shared:
When I was ten, [The Eternaut] was the first graphic novel I read cover to cover. As a movie critic, my aim in adapting this masterpiece is to capture the essence of wonder felt by that young reader encountering the story for the first time. I want to recreate the raw emotion of living an adventure within the familiar confines of your neighborhood, and bring to life the great Argentine hero, Juan Salvo, who graced its pages.
