Javier Bardem Gets Emotional Gushing Over Wife Penelope Cruz While Accepting San Sebastian Honor

As a gamer who’s spent countless hours immersed in the world of movies and film festivals, I can’t help but feel a sense of awe and admiration for the legendary Javier Bardem. His heartfelt speech at the 2024 San Sebastian Film Festival was a testament to his humility, love, and deep-rooted connections.

2024 San Sebastian Film Festival saw Spanish treasure Javier Bardem visibly moved on Friday evening, as he poured heartfelt admiration over his wife Penelope Cruz, during the presentation of his Donostia Lifetime Achievement Award.

Javier Bardem, known for his leading roles in movies like “Dune: Part Two”, “No Country for Old Men” (which earned him an Oscar), and “Skyfall”, as well as numerous acclaimed Spanish projects such as “Huevos de Oro” and “El detective y la muerte”, received the award from his siblings Monica and Carlos Bardem during the opening night gala at the Kursaal Theater. They took this opportunity to honor their brother on stage.

30 years ago today, almost exactly, Bardem reminisced about his Silver Shell award for best actor in 1994. “This marked the start of a wonderful relationship with this exceptional film festival,” he shared, “which has enriched me not just professionally but also on a personal level.

30 years ago, I received an award in San Sebastian that I’m still in disbelief they gave to me. Now, I’m here accepting another one from my cherished siblings whom I hold deep respect and affection for. I took this moment to honor my family: They nurtured my growth at a time when my mother was working tirelessly around the clock… If it is that I am still alive, both physically and spiritually, it is because of my brother and sister who looked after me, offered me their care and love.

He mentioned, “I’d like to consecrate this accolade to four individuals: My mom, who is here with us today, sitting in the theater and radiating joy, which I can sense.

The loudest cheers from the audience erupted when Bardem openly expressed his heartfelt admiration for his wife, Cruz, whom he married in 2010: “To a woman I adore and have spent my life with, I would like to express my sincere thanks and deep appreciation for the remarkable human being you are. You manage the lives of your children, family, friends, strangers who you care for, and undoubtedly mine as well. I am deeply grateful.” He swiftly acknowledged their two children, Leo and Luna.

Cruz beamed at her spouse, returning his playful display of affection as he sent kisses towards her area. The influential duo made their grand entrance, linked arm-in-arm, on the crimson carpet for the special occasion.

On Friday evening, Bardem concluded his speech by expressing gratitude towards the film festival before departing the stage amidst thunderous applause. Originally, he was scheduled to receive the award last year; however, duties related to the SAG-AFTRA actors strike necessitated a postponement.

The 72nd San Sebastian International Film Festival, which opens with Audrey Diwan’s “Emmanuelle,” will take place from September 20th to the 28th.
