Laapataa Ladies: Kiran Rao REVEALS her favorite scenes from comedy-drama ft Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta and others

As an ardent fan of Kiran Rao’s work, I can’t help but feel a sense of sheer exhilaration that echoes her current state of bliss. The news of Laapataa Ladies being selected as India’s official entry for the Academy Awards 2025 is not just a testament to Kiran’s directorial prowess, but also a reflection of the power of stories that resonate deeply with audiences.

Kiran Rao is likely overjoyed and with good reason – her second directorial film, Laapataa Ladies, has been chosen as India’s submission for the 2025 Academy Awards. As the world takes pride in her achievement for creating this comedy-drama masterpiece, she has graciously acknowledged the team’s efforts in its success. In a recent interview, she shared her fondness for three standout scenes featuring actors Nitanshi Goel, Sparsh Shrivastava, Pratibha Ranta, Abhay Dubey, Chhaya Kadam and Ravi Kishan from the movie.

In her conversation with NDTV, the movie director joyfully shared her excitement about beginning the journey to win an international award. Furthermore, Kiran Rao talked about three significant scenes from the movie that hold a special place in her heart. One of these cherished moments is the final scene where characters Phool Kumari (performed by Nitanshi Goel) and Jaya Singh (played by Pratibha Ranta) meet. She mentioned that since viewers rarely see both characters together throughout the film, this scene is unique and among her favorites.

Next, we move to the evening sequence where the house’s female residents share a meal together. The director of Dhobi Ghat commented on this scene, “It was freezing cold outside, so we built a fire. It was a delightful setup for filming and it truly encapsulated the essence of female camaraderie.” Lastly, there’s a scene where Manju Maai ( portrayed by Chaaya Kadam) sits in her tea stall having an intimate conversation with Phool. She dispenses wisdom about life and gives Phool a blunt reality check on how the world functions.

Recently, Kiran shared her joy on social media following the news that Laapataa Ladies has been selected as India’s entry for the Academy Awards. In a heartfelt message, she attributed this recognition to the unrelenting efforts of her entire team, whose devotion and passion made it possible to tell this story. She also expressed hope that the comedy-drama would captivate global audiences in the same way it did in India, winning over countless cinema enthusiasts worldwide.

In her official statement, Rao expressed gratitude towards Aamir Khan Productions and Jio Studios for their steadfast backing of her creative ideas. She also acknowledged the exceptional team she worked with, stating that it was an honor to collaborate with such a group of fervent and skilled professionals who shared her zeal in narrating this story.
