As a gamer with roots deeply entrenched in the ’90s gaming culture, this collaboration between WIND AND SEA and NBA, inspired by the legendary rhythm game, PaRappa the Rapper, has me reminiscing on my misspent youth! I can still hear the iconic beats of “Parappa-byo-dou” in my head. The nostalgia is real with this one, and the fact that they’ve incorporated iconic NBA teams from the same era is a stroke of genius.
The basketball season has arrived, and WIND AND SEA is getting ready with a new NBA partnership inspired by the popular ’90s rhythm game, “PaRappa the Rapper”. This marks the first time the brand collaborates in a three-way partnership. The collection, while rooted in nostalgia, is also contemporary, offering a unique flavor to the Japanese label.
Entitled “Rhythm on the Court,” this collection showcases legendary NBA teams and their distinctive ’90s uniform designs, featuring teams such as the Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, Boston Celtics, and Los Angeles Lakers. The video game character, PaRappa the Rapper, who gained fame in 1996 for his quirky animated persona, is also part of this collaboration, adding a fun element to it. The characters designed by Rodney Greenblat, an illustrator based in New York, are depicted holding basketballs, fitting with the theme and can be found on various items including t-shirts, hoodies, beanies, bucket hats, socks, and original stickers.
The collection is now available online.
