Netflix not co-operating with Bade Miyan Chote Miyan producers Vashu and Jackky Bhagnani regarding legal tussle, claims EOW

As a seasoned observer of the dynamic entertainment industry, I find myself deeply concerned by the ongoing tussle between Vashu Bhagnani and Netflix. Having had the privilege to witness the behind-the-scenes machinations of this world, I can tell you that it’s not uncommon for disagreements to arise, but what sets this apart is the apparent lack of cooperation from one party – in this case, Netflix.

Vashu and Jackky Bhagnani from Pooja Entertainment have filed a lawsuit against Netflix for unpaid fees. However, Netflix has disputed all claims, saying it’s actually Pooja Entertainment that owes them money. In the most recent development, the Economic Offenses Wing has disclosed that Netflix is not being forthcoming with their cooperation during the ongoing investigation.

According to Ravindra Avhad, the investigating officer on the case, Netflix is yet to pay producer Vashu Bhagnani a sum of 47 crores. However, Netflix has not been responsive to our letters, and none of their key personnel have responded to our summons. In contrast, only former employees have shown up. This uncooperative behavior seems to be solely on Netflix’s part, despite the Bhagnanis being prepared to cooperate fully.

Subsequently, it came to light that the initial filing of the complaint took place in April. Afterward, the authorities gathered necessary documents, reached out to Netflix for comment, but were granted more time and offered a questionnaire as well.

The officer conducting the investigation stated that Netflix did not provide much assistance in the investigation, as they sent representatives who lacked the power to make decisions, and important people such as Monica Shergill were absent.

It’s essential to make clear that Pooja Entertainment is owed 47 crores by Netflix, not vice versa. The statement from Netflix has been found to be inaccurate, and the ongoing refusal to cooperate continues to be a problem, as pointed out by Avhad.

In simpler terms, Vashu Bhagnani stated that Netflix lodged a complaint involving Los Gatos Production Services India (a company Netflix uses to report their content investments in India), Zoo Digital India, and some of the top officials from these companies.

According to Bhagnani’s grievance, his three movies – Hero No 1 (still under production), Mission Raniganj, and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan – were allegedly undermined by the streaming service in terms of rights. In response to this complaint, Netflix issued a public statement, refuting all accusations. They declared that Bhagnani’s claims were entirely baseless and instead, it was Pooja Entertainment that allegedly owed them money.

Our history shows we’ve collaborated closely with the Indian artistic community, and we’re currently negotiating with the relevant officials to settle this disagreement.
