As a die-hard fan of both Jonathan Franzen and Meryl Streep, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming TV adaptation of “The Corrections.” I remember devouring the novel years ago, captivated by its intricate portrayal of family dynamics and the human condition. To see it come to life on the small screen, with the inimitable Meryl Streep playing the role of the family matriarch, is truly a dream come true.
Jonathan Franzen’s novel, “The Corrections,” is set to have another attempt at being adapted for television, this time with Meryl Streep as the lead actress.
CBS Studios is currently working on developing a drama series inspired by the critically-acclaimed 2001 novel. The author, Jonathan Franzen, will be responsible for the adaptation of his novel and also serve as an executive producer. At this point, no streaming platform or television network has been linked to the project.
CBS Studios declined comment.
The CBS Studios initiative marks the second endeavor for a television remake of “The Corrections“. Previously, HBO filmed a pilot episode for a series adaptation in 2012 featuring Chris Cooper and Dianne Wiest, but ultimately decided against developing it into a full-fledged series.
Since producer Scott Rudin exercised an option for the rights to Franzen’s novel in the early 2000s, it has been under the control of Paramount. However, the current project was previously based at Paramount Television Studios but recently moved to CBS Studios last month following Paramount Global’s decision to discontinue PTVS.
In 2001, The Corrections, a winner of the National Book Award, focuses on a Midwestern family that gathers for Christmas as their father’s health declines. The story follows the lives of the parents and their three grown children across several decades. Meryl Streep is suggested to portray the role of the family’s mother, who becomes increasingly preoccupied with organizing one last grand celebration before her husband’s dementia advances further.
Currently, Meryl Streep can be seen in Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building.” Her recent projects also include season two of HBO’s “Big Little Lies” as well as films such as “Don’t Look Up,” “Let Them All Talk,” and the 2019 adaptation of “Little Women.” She is represented by CAA and Gendler Kelly.
