Yellowstone's Cast Explained The Intense Way They've Kept The Final Episodes Of Season 5 A Secret, And This Is Like Marvel Levels Of Cautious

As a long-time fan of both Marvel and Yellowstone, I must admit that the level of secrecy surrounding these productions has taken me by surprise. Yet, it seems that the creators of Yellowstone have learned a thing or two from the superheroes themselves!

It’s widely known that Marvel takes extraordinary measures to keep their projects secret until they are released. I didn’t think a show like Yellowstone would employ such secrecy methods, but it turns out they do. In fact, before the series’ premiere on the 2024 TV schedule, the cast of Yellowstone revealed how they managed to keep the storylines of Season 5‘s final episodes hidden…even from the main actors themselves.

Ahead of the unveiling of the last episodes in Yellowstone‘s fifth season, some members of the cast recently conducted an interview, which was shared on the series’ YouTube channel (you can watch it here). In this chat, they discussed their experiences working on these eagerly awaited storylines. They also revealed that this production has been remarkably discreet this time around. After a female voiceover mentioned “there is much security” surrounding the show during this season, Jen Landon, who portrays Teeter, shared her thoughts on this topic.

We get these redacted scripts, basically, everything is blacked out except for your lines.

Furthermore, Dawn Olivieri, an actress portraying Sarah Atwood, directed attention towards Wendy Moniz, seated beside her. She is the one playing Senator Lynelle Perry.

I don’t know what she did, she doesn’t know what I did, we can’t tell each other.

It’s quite startling, but the approach to this screenplay could seem recognizable, as it’s a tactic often employed by Marvel in their film ventures.

Notably, much like in “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Endgame”, these films marked a significant conclusion to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Infinity Saga. During the production of “Endgame”, director Joe Russo chose not to trust Tom Holland with the script because of his history of unintentionally revealing spoilers. Similarly, Emma Fuhrmann, who played Cassie Lang in the Avengers film, received a redacted script that only contained her own scenes. In fact, there were even fake scripts for “Infinity War” distributed!

Given the massive popularity of Yellowstone, it’s no wonder that there’s much curiosity about how the series will continue without Kevin Costner portraying John Dutton. The secrecy surrounding the production seems justified, yet this level of mystery is also quite intense. As director Christina Voros explained, this intensity affected not only the cast and crew but also how they had to approach their work.

It’s a strong demonstration of the crew’s bravery, as they’ve spent seven years mastering a specific method, only to encounter unexpected hurdles due to their commitment to maintaining the narrative for the viewers’ benefit.

To date, they’ve carried out that action. As for the upcoming season, we’re not privy to many details other than parts of it will unfold in Texas and John Dutton, portrayed by Costner, won’t be present. But the drama will undoubtedly intensify if we remain unsure of what lies ahead.

In a recent discussion, actor Denim Richards from Colby explained how keeping the cast unaware of upcoming events could enhance the quality of the show.

The presentation seems to enhance its distinctiveness even further. This year’s spectators will witness genuine responses, ones that are far from staged or rehearsed.

According to Wendy Moniz, her viewpoint aligns with the idea that this level of secrecy suggests an extraordinary season we are about to witness. She expressed this by saying:

It speaks to how special this is going to be.

I share your conviction that maintaining big plot secrets can lead to substantial rewards, as demonstrated by films like “Avengers: Endgame” and “Infinity War”. The surprise and excitement of discovering the storyline without any prior knowledge made those movies and their key moments unforgettable. I’m equally confident that I’ll enjoy the upcoming episodes of “Yellowstone” just as much, with their secrets yet to be unveiled.

On November 10 at 8 p.m. ET, we’ll finally uncover all these secrets when Yellowstone premieres on the Paramount Network. Until then, you can catch up by rewatching the first four and a half seasons on Peacock to try and guess what happens next with Taylor Sheridan’s Western series.
