When Irrfan Khan praised Aamir's approach to film business; 'I think usne ek example set kiya hai'

As a lifestyle expert and connoisseur of the arts, I am continually inspired by the wisdom and grace of the great artists who have graced our screens. One such luminary is none other than the late, great Irrfan Khan. His insightful words on the business aspect of showbiz serve as a testament to his intelligence and foresight.

Irrfan Khan, who recently starred in Angrezi Medium, is fondly remembered as one of the greatest actors globally. The late Irrfan Khan graced films such as Paan Singh Tomar, Maqbool, Talvar, The Namesake, The Lunchbox, Life of Pi, Haider, and numerous others. This highly respected actor once admired Aamir Khan’s film business strategy and felt that the leading star had paved a remarkable path in Bollywood.

In an interview with Komal Nahta on ETC Bollywood, Irrfan Khan expressed his admiration for Aamir Khan, noting his fairness within the movie industry.

I hold Aamir Khan in such high regard, his example has truly inspired me. From what I’ve gathered about the integrity he demonstrates in business…” is how Irrfan put it, as he admitted that he doesn’t personally know him.

When inquired about whether an actor should also be a businessman, the star of Paan Singh Tomar affirmed and emphasized that a performer should possess business acumen. Irrfan Khan explained the importance of understanding the financial aspects of film production, suggesting that if the producer isn’t making a profit, then neither should the actor.

As a devoted actor like Irrfan Khan, I’ve always aspired for my films to yield substantial profits, ensuring fair returns not just for me, but also for the filmmakers who have invested their time and resources. I believe that happiness in my earnings comes only when the producers are satisfied with their share too; otherwise, it wouldn’t feel quite right.

In simpler terms, Irrfan mentioned that he aspires to follow in Aamir’s footsteps because he thinks an actor like Aamir finds joy not just in having money, but also ensuring the business is successful and the producer doesn’t suffer a loss. He expressed that Aamir would feel proud if someone earns through his name.

For those unfamiliar, Irrfan Khan and Aamir Khan didn’t team up for a movie during their careers within the Hindi film industry. On a professional note, Irrfan completed his education at the National School of Drama in 1987. The following year, he embarked on his Bollywood journey with Mira Nair’s Academy Award-nominated film titled “Salaam Bombay!”, where he played a small part in her 1988 directorial effort.

In the year 2018, Irrfan Khan was diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer. He sought and underwent treatment in the United Kingdom before returning to India after a period of one year. Tragically, in 2020, Irrfan was hospitalized at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital due to a colon infection. Unfortunately, he passed away on April 29 of that same year. Irrfan leaves behind his wife, writer Sutapa Sikdar, as well as their two sons, actor Babil Khan and Ayan.

As a devoted follower, I last caught Aamir Khan on the big screen in Advait Chandan’s film, Laal Singh Chaddha, back in 2022. This was an adaptation of the beloved movie Forrest Gump, starring Tom Hanks originally. More recently, he’s been involved in the production side, collaborating with his ex-wife and director Kiran Rao on her project Laapataa Ladies this year. Remarkably, this production has been chosen as India’s submission for the Oscars 2025.

Aamir Khan is preparing for his next project, the film “Sitaare Zameen Par,” directed by R S Prasanna. After 17 years, he will be working alongside his co-star from “Taare Zameen Par,” Darsheel Safary once again. Genelia D’Souza is also part of the cast in a significant role for this upcoming film.
