Agatha All Along Replaces Bluey at Top of Disney+ Chart

Agatha All Along Replaces Bluey at Top of Disney+ Chart

As a long-time fan of Marvel and Disney, I must say that I’m absolutely thrilled about the success of “Agatha All Along“! Having grown up with these franchises, it’s heartening to see fresh takes on beloved characters like Agatha Harkness. The series has managed to capture the essence of its source material while offering a unique perspective that even comic book veterans like myself can appreciate.

It appears that “Agatha All Along” has been a major success on Disney+, surpassing even the well-loved children’s series “Bluey” to claim the number one spot. This show is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and focuses on Kathryn Hahn’s breakout character, Agatha Harkness, who was a highlight in the popular series “WandaVision”. The first two episodes were released on Disney+ on September 18, 2024, with a new episode scheduled each week until October 30, 2024. This will culminate in a two-part finale timed for Halloween.

Agatha All Along claimed the top spot on Disney+’s global streaming charts, dethroning Bluey, a widely popular Australian animated series that has maintained a dominant position for quite some time. According to Variety, the initial episode of Agatha All Along garnered 9.3 million views on Disney+ within its first seven days. It’s not entirely clear if this figure represents just the first single episode or includes the two-part premiere as well.

It’s intriguing to consider the 9.3 million views of ‘Agatha All Along’ in comparison to other streaming series. Although it surpassed ‘The Penguin’s’ 5.3 million viewers across HBO, Max, and various platforms within its first four days, it remains uncertain how many more viewers ‘The Penguin’ attracted during those additional three days. Notably, both ‘Agatha All Along’ and ‘The Penguin’ trailed behind ‘The Acolyte’, a ‘Star Wars’ series that amassed 11.1 million viewers in just five days upon its June 2024 premiere. However, some might view this as a less favorable sign for ‘Agatha All Along’. Despite Disney and Lucasfilm deciding not to renew ‘The Acolyte’, it’s worth noting that ‘Agatha All Along’ is planned as a miniseries.

It’s quite likely that Bluey will regain its number one position, pushing Agatha All Along aside. This rapid success demonstrates how effectively Disney and Marvel have promoted the series. Although some fans may have doubted the demand for this series due to Agatha Harkness’s lesser popularity among comic book enthusiasts, Marvel Studios recognized that Kathryn Hahn’s portrayal of the character was special and that audiences seemed to appreciate her, so they decided to give her a classic spin-off in the form of a television series. They also aimed to attract a broader audience. Timing it for the Halloween season, making it a weekly event families could enjoy in September and October to build excitement for the holiday, was a smart move by Disney+. In a similar vein to WandaVision, fan theories about Agatha All Along are likely to multiply in the coming weeks, potentially attracting more viewers. As Halloween draws nearer, more audiences may choose to binge it closer to the holiday.
