Over the recent Labor Day holiday in America, offices were shut, but instead of a break, creativity was bustling in the charming Mexican town of San Miguel.
The scene unfolded at the opulent Live Aqua resort in San Miguel de Allende, where around a hundred privileged locals and esteemed VIPs had been invited for a peek at the newest fashion lineup by hometown sensation and burgeoning global style icon Neithan Herbert.
The beautiful garden terrace of the property became the stage for Herbert’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection, featuring flowing gowns, intricate knits, and elaborate accessories. A spellbound audience of friends and clients watched as he unveiled pieces inspired by his most cherished sources, ranging from the Inca moon goddess Mama Quilla to the simple yet sophisticated style reminiscent of his mother. The collection, titled “Moonlight,” paid homage to these influential figures in Herbert’s life.
The gathering incorporated themes reminiscent of horse-riding culture, featuring broad-brimmed hats, cowboy boots, and clothing designs inspired by the West. An assortment of models showcased these styles. The evening’s most captivating moment occurred when a live white horse gracefully walked down the catwalk, causing gasps of admiration from the crowd. Notably, the proceeds from the event ticket sales were donated to Equinoterapia SMA, a nearby organization that helps children with developmental issues and trauma using equine therapy – truly making a difference in people’s lives.
For the first time, a high-end fashion event graced San Miguel, an occasion that not only signified a notable achievement for designer Neithan Herbert, but also a pivotal moment for the region, propelling this flourishing town onto the international fashion scene. The designer revealed that 80% of his collection featured fabrics from Guanajuato State, Mexico, while local craftsmen contributed to the creation of the belts, buckles, and buttons displayed in the show.
During Herbert’s presentation, Live Aqua San Miguel de Allende provided an ideal backdrop. This resort is nestled mere miles from where the designer spent his childhood, mirroring the blend of age-old tradition and modern ingenuity that characterizes San Miguel nowadays. For instance, one of the town’s oldest houses stands proudly above a contemporary Starbucks. Meanwhile, fashion-forward individuals wearing cowboy boots, hailing from Mexico City (approximately a four-hour drive), socialize in the town square alongside genuine vaqueros, who were there to celebrate their daughters’ quinceañeras at the church.
The food and drink scene is equally diverse, both in town, where Japanese-inspired coffee shops and paella stands have popped up next to the taquerías, and at Live Aqua, where the hotel’s main restaurant, Zibu Allende, serves up a nightly fusion of Mexican and Thai cuisine. The stylish Spice Market upstairs offers a novel take on Chinese and Japanese cuisine, while the speakeasy-esque Cigar Bar lists an extensive and well-curated tequila and mezcal menu, but encourages guests to order from their impressive cocktail selections as well.

The resort itself is an architectural marvel, with a soaring entryway and sandy walls tucked amidst the lush greenery and running waters of nearby Obraje Dam. The vivid colors and textures of Mexican art are thoughtfully woven into the common areas of the property, which seamlessly blends open-air spaces and cozy nooks for a vibe that’s at once sprawling and intimate.
For Herbert, showing at Live Aqua was a dream come true, having watched the property evolve over the years. The designer says he chose the resort for their shared values of celebrating Mexican craftsmanship and promoting and employing local talent. Live Aqua, meantime, says the fact that Herbert returned to his hometown to put on a show, “speaks volumes about his dedication to his roots and the artisans of Mexico.”
Next up for Herbert: The designer shares with Rolling Stone that he’s currently immersed in creating his next collection, which might feature some unique collaborations and the debut of art-inspired items. Additionally, he’s expanding his flourishing online business, as his pieces are now being shipped globally.
