As a long-time Angeleno who’s spent more than my fair share of time navigating the cutthroat world of Los Angeles real estate, I can’t help but feel a strange sense of camaraderie with the characters in Netflix’s upcoming series, No Good Deed. The teaser for this dark comedy has piqued my curiosity, reminding me all too well of the lengths some people will go to secure their dream home—or so they think!
Los Angeles boasts a highly competitive property market – it could even be lethal, as depicted in Netflix’s forthcoming show “No Good Deed.
A sneak peek of the initial trailer for a dark comedy series has been unveiled by the streamer, created by Liz Feldman of “Dead to Me” fame. The upcoming show, set to debut on December 12, focuses on Lydia and Paul, portrayed by Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano respectively, who are now empty nesters and choose to embark on a fresh beginning by selling their stunning, century-old property in one of Los Angeles’ most sought-after districts.
Unleash the excitement as “numerous families scramble to purchase what they perceive as their ideal homes, assuming it will solve all of their unique issues,” the show’s summary states. However, Lydia and Paul have learned this hard truth: sometimes, the house of your dreams can turn into a real nightmare. As they strive to conceal the ominous and hazardous secrets lurking within their long-cherished home, Paul and Lydia gradually understand that the only way they’ll break free from the past is by confronting it directly.
The short video preview (take a look below) doesn’t reveal much about the “hidden mysteries and threats,” but it does include quick glimpses of characters looking out of windows or through wall openings, a gun being shown and someone getting too close to a table saw, while Lydia and Paul watch their potential buyers from behind a locked door. Poppy Liu’s character comments that the house appears “more ominous than I anticipated… it has a creepy atmosphere.
The cast of “No Good Deed” includes Linda Cardellini, O-T Fagbenle, Abbi Jacobson, Denis Leary, Teyonah Parris, and Luke Wilson as the main characters. Additionally, Matt Rogers, Kate Moennig, Chloe East, Rory Scovel, Wyatt Aubrey, Kevin Alves, Linda Lavin, and Anna Maria Horsford appear as guest stars in this production.
2022 saw Netflix granting a full series order directly to the show, with Feldman expressing that the concept of No Good Deed emerged from her compulsive Zillow browsing in the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. “I am profoundly thankful to Netflix for being such an encouraging creative environment and for giving me the opportunity to transform my relentless anxiety into entertainment,” Feldman stated at the time.
Under the supervision of Feldman, Silver Tree (who directed six out of eight episodes, with Feldman directing the remaining two) and a team from Gloria Sanchez Productions led by Christie Smith, Jessica Elbaum, and Will Ferrell, the executive production was handled. The credited writers for this project are Madie Dhaliwal, Cara DiPaolo, Crystal Jenkins, Kelly Hutchinson, Bruce Eric Kaplan, and Zora Bikangaga.
