Sonic the Hedgehog Fan-Favorite Casting Idea Addressed by Emmy Winner Sarah Paulson

As a seasoned movie critic with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the prospect of Sonic the Hedgehog gracing our screens for a third outing is nothing short of extraordinary. With the addition of fan-favorite character Shadow the Hedgehog and the enigmatic Keanu Reeves, it’s a veritable feast for the eyes of any gamer-turned-moviegoer.

If you had mentioned to someone 10 years ago that Sonic the Hedgehog would be part of a successful trilogy and even have its own spin-off series, they likely would have thought you were joking or insane. However, against all expectations, including an initial Sonic design that was heavily criticized by fans, resulting in a redesign by Paramount, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is scheduled for release this December. Furthermore, the fan-beloved character Shadow the Hedgehog will make his live-action debut, with Keanu Reeves providing his voice. With Keanu Reeves on board, fans of Sonic are expressing their hopes and suggesting Emmy Award-winning actress Sarah Paulson to portray another beloved character, Rouge the Bat in future installments.

At the moment, she hasn’t expressed any intention of taking on the role, and as she mentioned to Comicbook.com herself, it appears quite unlikely. However, if offered, she’s open to the possibility of portraying Rogue.

I haven’t received any calls about playing Rouge the Bat yet, but I hope someone does. There seems to be a rumor going around, but let me clarify, it hasn’t been confirmed for me. However, if you or anyone else decides to reach out to the creators about this, I would be more than happy to participate.

If Paramount and Paulson don’t have any surprises planned, it seems that the chance for Rouge the Bat to appear in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has passed. However, this doesn’t mean the franchise is concluding with a trilogy; instead, there’s plenty of video game history to draw upon for future installments.

The Sonic the Hedgehog Team Are Planning More Stories

Contrary to some franchises that wrap up nicely within a trilogy, it appears that Sonic the Hedgehog isn’t planning to stop anytime soon. Successful franchises like Sonic tend to keep going, and with its robust storyline, there seems to be no end in sight according to Toby Ascher, producer of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. During the September 24 Sonic Central presentation, he stated, “We have a wealth of tales yet to tell” and “There’s no sign of us slowing down“.

In future installments of the franchise, there are several characters who could potentially make an appearance, such as Rouge the Bat. If the series continues long enough, it’s quite possible she might show up. As for whether actress Paulson will voice her is still uncertain. Interestingly, in a recent interview, Paulson expressed interest in being part of a comic book movie, so joining the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise wouldn’t be too much of a leap for her.

She expressed her strong desire by saying, “I’ve always dreamed of being in a comic book movie. I had the chance once, with ‘The Spirit,’ years ago, but it didn’t get much attention because it wasn’t popular. Now, I’d love to be part of one that people would truly appreciate.

Fans eagerly anticipate the arrival of Amy Rose, one of the beloved characters from Team Sonic. As a hedgehog like Sonic herself, she’s a fan-favorite and is likely to make an appearance as the series progresses, alongside other popular cast members hailing from the Sega universe, such as Rouge.

is scheduled to be theatrically released by Paramount Pictures on December 20, 2024.
