Terrifier 3’s Bloody Opening Sequence Is Resulting In Walkouts And More, And I Love The Director's Response

As a seasoned horror aficionado who’s seen more than my fair share of gruesome scenes, I can wholeheartedly say that Damien Leone’s Terrifier 3 is shaping up to be an unmissable masterpiece for any gore enthusiast. The sheer audacity and dedication to the craft demonstrated by Leone and his team are nothing short of commendable.

Art Clown’s behavior often carries more weight than his spoken words, and it’s safe to say he would enthusiastically affirm that Terrifier 3, directed by Damien Leone, is one of the most eagerly awaited horror films of 2024 or any year. (Feel free to check out my review here!) However, it seems that even those who were most eager for the new sequel found little respite once it began, as suggested by accounts of viewers exiting after just the first five minutes.

During the initial screening in the UK for the movie “Terrifier 3”, it appeared that the film left a significant impression on its overseas audience, as an impressive number of viewers – eleven to be exact – chose to leave the theater and not return after the film started. Remarkably, nine of these departures transpired following the opening scene. I can only speculate that those individuals may have swallowed their pride and forwent any requests for refunds.

A person who likely felt the need to cleanse their mouth after watching the initial scene of “Terrifier 3” apparently became nauseous and vomited, as reported by LadBible. While I’m not curious about how this anecdote was verified, I’m content to accept it as truth without concrete evidence, given that director Damien Leone hinted that the movie would make viewers sick even before production began.

Damien Leone’s Reaction To The Terrifier 3 Walkouts

Following widespread walkouts of the film “Terrifier 3“, the movie’s representatives spoke up about the director’s personal reaction upon discovering the impact his movie had on its British viewers. To quote the director directly:

Normally, folks exit a film if it’s disappointing. However, when someone leaves a showing of “Terrifier”, it’s a sign of respect for the skillful work of the special effects makeup team. It seems we’ve succeeded in our mission!

Earlier, Damien Leone mentioned discussions with Hollywood studios about producing a sequel to Terrifier, given that the second movie grossed over $15 million at the box office on a budget of only $250,000. However, the director anticipated that those who read the initial five pages of Art the Clown’s new appearance would push for him to soften the content. Yet, Leone is not a filmmaker who compromises on his creative vision. He understands what his viewers crave, and they are eagerly awaiting Terrifier 3.

As a spectator at Fantastic Fest 2024 who witnessed the initial showing, I can assure you I have a clear picture of the opening scene and it’s not hard to imagine why someone with a delicate sensibility might want to steer clear. What leaves me puzzled, though, is why anyone would enter Terrifier 3 unprepared for the most brutal forms of horror, given that the first two films didn’t hold back on gruesome violence.

Gore enthusiasts are in for a treat with the release of Terrifier 3 on October 11. So, make sure you have some handy handkerchiefs at the ready, as this film is likely to induce vomiting among viewers and is one of the most anticipated movies of 2024.
