Rebel Wilson Countersues ‘The Deb’ Producers, Alleging Theft, Bullying and Sexual Misconduct

As a long-time fan of Rebel Wilson‘s work, this latest turn of events has left me feeling quite disheartened and concerned. It seems that the Hollywood dream, which often appears glamorous from afar, can sometimes conceal darker truths. The allegations against Amanda Ghost, Cameron Gregor, and Vince Holden are truly troubling and, if proven true, paint a picture of an industry where power can be misused in the most distressing ways.

In response to the claims made by producers Amanda Ghost, Cameron Gregor, and Vince Holden on The Deb, Rebel Wilson is filing a lawsuit alleging a concerning series of actions including “alleged theft,” “harassment,” and “inappropriate behavior.

The counter-lawsuit was filed several months following when Ghost, Gregor, and Holden took legal action against Wilson for defamation in July, based on her initial accusations of sexual harassment and embezzlement in an Instagram video. In their lawsuit, they claimed that Wilson fabricated her statements to gain advantage in releasing her movie titled The Deb at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, as well as obtain a writing credit for the film.

Wilson’s latest claims assert that Ghost behaved inappropriately towards the lead actress, Charlotte MacInnes, alleging incidents such as forcing her to share living quarters at her Bondi Beach penthouse. Furthermore, it is stated that Ghost reportedly took showers and baths with MacInnes, and made lewd comments towards her on set, which were overheard by others.

The three-person team is additionally charged with devising a plan to inflate the movie’s expenses and keep the extra money for themselves, as stated in the accusation. The lawsuit alleges that they misappropriated approximately AU $900,000 from the film’s budget, intending to share it among themselves.

When Wilson brought the accusations to Executive Producer Danny Cohen (who, as claimed in the lawsuit, chose to disregard them), it was then alleged that the production team orchestrated a harmful and relentless retaliation campaign against her.

Wilson stated that persistent harassment and intimidation prompted her to engage a security team during the production of “The Deb“, ensuring completion of filming. The lawsuit also asserted that Gregor menaced to cancel the project and dismiss around 300 cast and crew members, unless she agreed to put in writing that she retracted her accusations concerning Ghost’s alleged sexual misconduct.

Attorney Bryan Freedman stated, “Amanda Ghost, Cameron Gregor, and Vince Holden tried to twist the truth by carelessly filing an extravagant lawsuit with questionable claims. However, they’ve barely scratched the surface of their dubious actions. In a bid to change the focus, they didn’t foresee that this move would lead to Wilson’s counter-suit, which exposes a multitude of their shocking misdeeds, many of which are backed by multiple witnesses. It’s unfortunate but not surprising that several individuals have come forward with similar stories about Amanda Ghost. This is just the beginning; there’s much more revelation on the horizon.

The Hollywood Reporter has contacted the representatives of Cohen, Ghost, Gregor, Holden, and MacInnes seeking their comments.
